1. Yeah, that is F*CKED UP!!!
The exit is very small. You can get 2 people through the doorway at a time.
AND....
The exit is at the end of a very, very steep stairway (it almost looks like one of the
Tube subway staircases in London).
AND....
The doors open
inwards, not
outwards.
AND.....
They have WACK security guards (even though some of them are off duty police officers).
AND.....
The owner
Calvin can be a buttwad, at times (I've known him about 17 years).
AND...
They didn't have the authority to be opened upstairs (because of shabby remoldeling work of the upper VIP rooms).
AND......
My boy (partner), Vaughn Woods (the DJ) yelled out, "alright, time to spray em' ".
This isn't the first time this has happened (albeit, there weren't any deaths.....).
2. Yes, I've spun there a myriad of times (I used to be a
resident dj there when it was named the "Clique").
I did a couple of celebrity parties there since it has been
E2.
One of the parties was for "Too Short", another one was for "R-Kelly", and another was for "Shaq".
3. Well....... the restaurant downstairs is beautiful, and the food is awesome. They normally play
live Jazz, down there. I have played some
Acid-Jazz sets in the restaurant for some of my corporate sponsors, as well as, some of our politians, and retailers.
One of the biggest problems with
E2 (upstairs) is/was the gang influence, as well as the patrons exercising a
ghetto-mentality.
I know that my last statement sounded kind of f*cked up, but is is/was the truth.
Each gang would have it's own corner or section.
You would have Vice Lords in one corner. You'd have some Gangster Disciples in a another corner. You'd have some Black Disciples over in this area. And, you'd have some Black Pea Stones in that area.
It was an ALL black crowd. There was no racial diversity. And..... if you weren't a "baller", or at least dressed and "flossed" like a "balller" then you weren't going to get any play from the ladies.
(Unless you were the DJ, of course).
I didn't like DJ'ing upstairs because you could only play one facet of music. It had to be
commercial, it had to be well known songs, and it had to be quote/unquote
"ghetto".
I didn't mind playing downstairs in the restaurant, because
live Jazz would normally be played, the crowd was older (35-50), AND the patrons downstairs could appreciate GREAT music.
I play a variety of music, from Hip-Hop to 60's, from Rock to Brazillian.
The city is trying to prevent the Calvin and his associate (the owners) from opening up any other clubs, in this city,
FOR LIFE.
