SM-57 with a Fat Albert mod and ribbed condom suspension!

For a grab and go mic you just can't beat it! If I could only have one mic at all it would be a 57 just as long as I could have 20 of them:D

If I were issued the challenge of recording a group using one type of mic exclusively for everything on the recording,I would opt for Sennheiser md-421's. They have got to be the most rugged and versatile mics I have ever used.I have a pair and have used them on just about anything and everything and got acceptable or better results.About the only thing I can think of I tried it on and just couldn't get it to work on was a banjo, and who cares about a banjo anyway?

The Sennheiser MD421 is one of my favorite mic's too.

Old mic

Maybe not the best, not the coolest looking but it has saved my ass a few times when nothing else would work.

My Altec 639B! It may be old, but it has guts! very warm, clear sounds.

Wow. This thread was started like so long ago.

Look at me! I looked so young back then!

Memories . . . like the bla bla bla bla bla . . .

Yeah, Chess, I agree! I had hair and teeth back then. Well, for a cheap old AKG dynamic, I've upgraded to a D320B. And for all pupose use, I've probably gotten more mileage out of C414B-ULS than any mic in the cabinet.-Richie

The AT3035 is my go-to mic on male vocals, just always does a great job. It's also a no-brainer on guitar cabs. I'm surprised nobody here has mentioned it!

There just isn't an all in one mic out there...what do you have that could say mic a hi hat and then a kick drum?

I know I know...57's on EVERYTHING!!!

ha ha

Warren :)

Wow, I have so many more mic's now than I did when this old thread was started it's not even funny.

Beyer M88TG, best "all around" vocal mic on me.

So far...

Chris
