So what's everyone running to use N-tracks?

Mine's a 2.19 celeron, 768mg of PC2100 RAM.

Intel 845GL chipset (though I'm not sure what this is!...der :D )

I have no idea about the motherboard, and can't find jack for info on Dell's site...

So whachaa using?

*edit* Oh yeah, WD 120gb and 60gb HD's.

My RAM maxs out at 1 gig...bummer... :(

Don't have a soundcard yet (onboard crap). I'm still going through my fostex MR8, then bouncing to PC. I'm considering a delta 1010, at some point in the future...

That's probably what I should get. Heard great things about it.

How coincidental I mentioned my yearning for soundcard-ness.
Strangely, my wife brought up the idea...

When/if I get the 1010, I will hold it gently for a while, and then slowly make sweet love to it...

Not sure how the wife will feel about this though....

Maybe she should join in. I always wanted a 3-way!
Honey this is "Delta"... She has 10 "inputs" and 10 "outputs" (eww, outputs)

My 512mb RAM got here yesterday, woo hoo... I'm now maxed out!

My PC is a Duron 750 MHz on a cheapo mobo. Most of my recording was done when it had Win98SE, 256 MB RAM and a 30GB HDD. It's been recently upgraded by adding a 120GB HDD, filling up the RAM to 1GB and XP Pro.

I just bought one of these notebooks and filled up the RAM to 1GB and put XP Pro on it. Haven't tried to record anything with it though.

Oops! I'm not running ntrack. I've been using Cubasis but I got the Cubase LE upgrade from TASCAM and haven't had a chance to try it out.

Hmmm, is Cubasis more stable than N-tracks? 750mhz? How many tracks would you guess you averaged? With plug-ins?

Oh, probably 8 tracks average, with reverb and chorus so not much plug-in load.

I don't know about stability. If I'd've known about ntrack when I started out I'd've probably gone with them. Now I'm stuck in free upgrade mode.

WHAT?! N-Track isn't stable?? ...Wait! We'll do a second take after I reboot... Whaddaya mean "more stable!"?

Stable is relative. I think the majority of my problems were from when I was only running 256 of ram, also when I was using a version of N, older than 3.3.
I also used to use MUCHO plugs, excessively...

How about OS?

XP ~ Anybody else use a seperate boot menu with fewer services running? I cut my load drastically by trimming the fat, all the crap running that I didn't need (most of it).

No, but now you meantion it, that's a hell of an idea! I went to the system control panel/advanced/performance and set it to "adjust for better performance" and that made things a hell of alot better.

BTW, never-ever-ever-ever-ever turn off the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service in XP or set it to disable!!! You will never get it back and it will break your system completely!! Even an OS reinstall will not fix it!

Good advice.

More pointedly, never turn off ANY service without first paying a visit, and thoroughly reading BLACKVIPER.COM (which appears to be "under construction" at this time :o ).

64 TRACKS? Wow! Most I've ever done was 30, and it got muddy and I ended up trimming it down some. I am impressed! ;)
