Guitarists, do you have a goal - a cover song that you feel will lift you up to another level that you're working on.

It doesn't have to be Yngwie (but it could be). What's your goal song?

:D:):D:)

When I was 16 I played "The Clap" in concert. Fortunately I didn't contract it

After that I worked on the Well-Tempered Clavier Book 1, but I didn't get too far, especially with the fugues. The preludes are more playable :o

Now I don't have any goals, I just play what I feel

I felt I had truly arrived as a guitarist when I first mastered Thin Lizzy's "Whiskey in the Jar". Intro, riff and solo.

I was 15, and the world was my oyster.

Now, I've forgotten most of it.

Thank God. :D

Nowadays, I'm just happy to remember the changes from rehearsal to rehearsal....

I have enough trouble remembering what I did on track #3 so I can play it the same way on track #4. The last cover I remember learning "note for note" was Day Tripper and that was in like 1967.

Deep Purple: Lazy. I think I may buy a video that shows how to play it. I'm pretty sure I have the dexterity, but my ear isn't good enough to pick up the notes.

Changing chords is really a lot of effort. I mean, why change? If the chord you are already playing is so bad you want to change it, why did you play it in the first place?

Just pick one good chord, and stick with it. It's what Stockhausen would have done! :p

Tommy Emmanuel - Angelina

I'll get it someday. :D I can play most of it but just doesn't sound as good as he does, but then again he's a guitar god...

What sucks is that there's some kid on YouTube who's probably about 12 years old who can play it perfectly.

Acoustic renditions of Zeppelin's "Since I been loving you" and ZZ Top's "Blue Jean Blues"...

and in a completely different vein, 'Classical Gas.' I'll probably have an easier time with that than 'Lazy.'
