I just got Audition 3, which finally supports MIDI fully. I've played around with Reapers MIDI capability in the past, but only for fun. Now I actually have something in my studio that works. I'm using a Yamaha digi piano as my controller, and currently only have the 3 free VSTi's in AA3.

I was hoping to see what everyone else is using? I know of some pretty good free tube emulators and reverb etc. VST FX. But this is new to me. What's a good place to start. I'll definitely end up purchasing some MOOG VST's in the future once I get a hang of all of this, but for now I want some free ones to play with.

I found an awesome on elast night called minimogueVA. It's very close to an actual mogue, unfortunately with a lack of real control from my crappy keyboard.

Yea the minimogueVA is a great free synth and I've enjoyed playing around with it myself. I use a Yamaha DGX-505 through a usb midi btw.
Well I don't know of any other moogs but I do love my free vsti's and so I thought I'd link you to a few:-

GTG K1
I love a synth that looks like a synth in that, it has a keyboard and this is one of those.

HahahaCS33-100
Not a bad little synth that I've used a couple of times and can be worth playing with.

2_AM Freehand Free
Another nice synth with a keyboard. This thing has some great ARP's...load it up and select 'instant bassline' from the presets and you'll see what I mean.

superwave-p8-16
A great synth and a common favourite especially if you're after trance leads, synth strings etc.

Cygnus-SF
This is a fantastic synth designed for creating sound effects rather than pretty leads. You have to learn to play with it abit but, if it's music for sci-fi you're after, you have to give this a go.

you might consider downloading the conventional GUI rather than the space.

...and finally,
synth1v107
Has to be the best free synth about and if you've never heard of it, then you don't know your vsti's. There are plenty of youtube videos demonstrating this little beauty:-

If dance/trance is your thing, you have to have this synth.

you may have to translate the page as the author is Japanese...or just click cancel and scroll down the page looking for synth1v107.zip

Mart.

Hey man. I'm trying to get my midi vst's to work on audition. Can you give me some tips. I can record midi, but the vst's aren't working, all I'm hearing is the original piano notes. And I've got Edirol Orchestral I heard its great for strings.

I like cakewalk's dimension pro because it has a little of everything. Great orchestral samples, awesome heavy electronic synthy stuff, and some really insane atmosphere stuff, as well as organic instruments like bass guitar and piano.

There's one called AZR3...it's a big free organ thing...just like the NI B4 organ synth....except this one is free and sounds just as good and is about a 2mb dl.
