Whats your effects chain?

What amp do you use to record Greg - you get good tone - using SM57 to mic it?

Yeah, always a 57. I usually use a 50w JCM800. No pedals, no effects. I use a custom Diamond and a Krank sometimes too, but not too often. The Gibson or Strat + Marshall is the sound I like best. No frills. Just plug in, turn it up, and go. I have access to a buttload of amps. None of them are mine. :laughings:

I'm thinking about buying something though. I just don't know what to get. I might start doing my own music in my own band, and I aint gonna be no faggy singing drummer, so I'm gonna need a half-stack. I'd like an old Marshall of my own. I don't even really care which model. They all sound great to me.

Nice chain you've got there. I'm kind of new to effect chains and so how have you supplied them all with the same power-cable like that? I've been buying batteries for each of mine which is quite expensive.

I did use two different power supplies to power certain effects. one was a Godlyke Powerall (which recently has started giving me stupid hum through the amp) and the other was just a Boss PSA-Adapter. since the Godlyke is giving me said annoying hum i'm looking for an actual power brick that can be put on the pedal board and hidden away somehow. ^_^

Yamaha or fender into->EBS octabass->Ashdown->Boss ce-5(i really dislike this pedal for some reason)->Behringer BSY-600(Not actually that bad and much better then the boss and digitech equivalents)->Moog mf-101->Amp.

I get some pretty good modular sounds from this setup. I have source audio listed in my sig but thats just until i can afford one the damn things. A b.e.f pro is what im after.

Since the OP mentioned he wants his sound to be a slightly overdriven with delays, (please don't shoot me) I'd recommend Line 6 DL4 for delays and a nice boost/OD (I use BB pre) and that will get you sounding super close.

Also (again don't shoot me), the Line 6 M9 is really nice for a multi effects. Overdrives are nice, delays are nice, other effects are nice. It's a great all in one for recording and live.

I LOVE analog pedals but this is a great simple, semi-inexpensive solution that sounds really nice and will get what the OP is after.

Oh, and for that sound, don't forget the guitar and amp. I think they use a lot of telecasters and AC30's, and I've even seen videos of Fender Hot Rod Deluxe for live stuff. Not a huge coldplay fan so I could be wrong.

Mxr M82> Fuzzrocious Grey Stache> Digitech Bad Monkey> Digitech Bass Synth Wah> Danelectro Dan Echo> Dunlop Bass Cry Baby> Boss BF-2 > Digitech Bass Multi Chorus > Peavey Firebass 700> Acme Low B2 (when I can get away with it, otherwise a couple more cabs.)

Hows that Gray Stache sound? Is that a pedal specifically for Bass?

Awe - you'd be an awesome faggy singing drummer :) I have been shopping half stacks - I found a 100 watt Crate / 4x12 for $200 on CL but the guy sold it right out from under me - I don't give a damn about tone cause I get all I need from mu HT-Dual - so any clean solid state half stack will be good with me - you can get some sick deals on CL - people get hurting for cash and the pawnshop and gonna give them anything so they let stuff go pretty cheap.

Yeah I'm seeing JCM800/900 heads for 400-600. I can hot-plate a 100w if necessary, but I'd rather a 50w. Cab prices are all over the place, but Im seeing some 1960's for about the same as the heads. Looks like I can get into an all Marshall halfstack for well under a grand. My wiener dogs are gonna need some earplugs.

Live:
Epi LP--Dyna Comp--Wah---MXR classic OD---Rat Co Dist.---Ibanez Chorus--Boss D.D/Harmonizer---MXR 10 Band---Digi Tech Jam Man Looper---Out 1 to VOX Valv Tronix w/zoom 10/10 (I don't care what any body says the 10/10 is a cool FX) in the FX loop
Out 2 to Crate Bass amp. Clean for the Jam Man Pre recorded loops.
But I'm constantly switching around the order of pedals to see what it sounds like.

For recording I'll use just the amp's O.D. or maybe add just the FX I want like the wah or on O.D. pedal. all other FX I'll just add a plug in for chorus or reverb or what ever, mic'd with sm 57.

Depends. Have numerous FX but only use what I want at the time.

Same here. I use my pedals for both keyboard and MIDI guitar (which is the same difference, right?)

Voodoo Lab Tremolo
DigiTech RP90 multi-effects
Ibanez TS-9 Tube Screamer
DOD FX51 Juice Box overdrive
DOD FX20B stereo phaser
DOD FX25 envelope filter
DOD FX747 Supersonic Flange
DOD FX85 harmonic enhancer
DOD FX87 Edge harmonic exciter
DOD FX90 analog delay
Boss AW-3 dynamic wah
Guitar Fuel AV-1 Angular Velocity
Artec SE-NGT noise gate

The SansAmp GT-2 should be arriving any day now.

I just went to a smaller board for live bass work from 16 to 6 and am pretty pleased
Hjart Muller Lo|Fat overdrive- Digitech Bass Synth Wah- Austone FuzzNutzTexTone- Modified EHX BassBalls- Alkai UniBass- Zoom B2.1u
Recording it's pretty much whatever works, for guitar stuff I am mostly using an AdrenalLinnIII.

Is the GT-2 supposed to hiss like a truckload of rattlesnakes? Damn, a Marshall stack cranked up to eleven ain't even this noisy.

No it should not be that noisey, you likely have a gain or impedance mismatch or a bad cable.

Could that be caused by running a synth module instead of a guitar into it? What can be done in that case?

Sure, the output on the synth module is likely line level, wtf hotter than a gtr plugged in.

in the interest of the original post, you should check out the Boss RE-20 Roland Space Echo twin pedal. its amazing and incredibly versatile. delays, loops, reverbs, its brilliant.
so my chain consists of

2010 Fender mexican Jazzmaster- Digitech Hardwire tube overdrive- Boss ensemble chorus- Boss RE-20 Roland space echo- Boss tuner- 2006 Fender 212FM.
i found a used Boss ME50 multi effects online, from what I can see they don't sell them new anymore as theyve upgraded to the ME75 and the other ME25 which are nice, but the ME50 has such a tasty layout and I'd love some early 00's wiring.

Heres a chain.......Some sort of Strat> 1979 Boss OD-1(completely original first issue)> some sort of amp.......Blues Jr.- Conrad- whatever is laying around...

Guitar-->TS clone (MXR classic overdrive)-->Mesa DR--->vintage 30s

I have effects, I don't really use them anymore though. I have a ibanez tube king overdrive, blues driver (modded), EH V256 vocoder, and a DD6 delay.
