What's your definition of a Poser? What differentiates them from a legit guitar player?

It's pretty simple....either they can play, or not.

I think if you CAN play...pose away! :)

This is cliche but

Anyone worse than me who acts like they're good is a poser. Anyone better than me who acts like they're good is not.

I once played in a band with this guy who had long sandy hair and was skinny as a rail. He would come out on stage with painted on jeans, no shirt and suspenders and then stand, feet apart like a sprint runner at the start and throw his head back and forth, sweeping his hair all over the place. He had three riffs that he played really, really fast and it didn't matter what song, he was always hot dogging for the chicks. I didn't stay with that band for very long. I can only take so many polka's. (JOKING, about the polka's).

The Ramones never pretended to be anything more than the three-chord punk band they were.

Exactly how does that excuse them the "poser" label??? The whole band were pose personified. It's what made them.

Good point. Totally irrelevant but thanks..:)

I'm not sure what you want. It's freakin' show business, man. Putting on a show to entertain the boneheaded masses. The signed bands have a whole army of slick shysters behind them working to make the show seem larger than life.

What I want? I don't want anything from you lot, sorry if I gave that impression..

Sod off then, ya tosser. :p

Seriously though, musicianship is only one aspect of show business. It should be the most important aspect, seeing as they're making music and all, but it's a money-making enterprise first and foremost. They figured out a formula (hair, costumes, lights, head banging, prancing around onstage like a San Francisco faggot, etc.) to make it more profitable than just selling a few songs on a plastic disc, and they're not gonna give that up.
