Come on Guys we need this forum to help keep an objective place to exchange our ideas about CEP/AA.

Perhaps a name change for this forum is in order. Can that be done?

I'm just now upgrading to AA 1.5 and I might need some help through the process.

Rusty K

1.5 is very stable, has some really useful features, and the only thing lacking is a manual that tells you how to do things, instead of what the buttons do.

lpdeluxe,

Funny I was just asking about getting an upgrade on CD at the Adobe Audition forum and was told that I could get it and that it came with a manual (maybe not so instructive)and a Loopology CD.

Are you saying the helpfile for AA is worse than CEP?

Rusty K

No, not at all. The CD comes with a very comprehensive manual....it's just that it is descriptive, rather than project-oriented: it tells you what does what but not how to get from Point A to Point Z in a recording. In that sense it's just like the CEP manual, and 99% of of all the rest. But, like Photoshop, Audition is a deep program and it can be difficult to figure out how to pry open the shell at first.

Well I've found most manuals on most software to be that way.

I guess they just don't know how dumb I can actually be or maybe they figured that most like myself don't read the manual anyway....I've broken that bad habit however and I have my computer to thank for that.

Isn't that the truth! I thought Cool Edit Pro was pretty good when I first started using it, but in reading other people's questions here and at other forums, it's obvious that if you were new to recording AND computers you could get really confused. I have been seriously using Photoshop for a couple of years now, and it is similar in that the tasks that I often do, I understand pretty well, but if I were to teach Photoshop to someone else they would be stuck with doing the kinds of things I can do until they somehow grasped the depth of the program. At this point I have the simpler stuff figured out (just like I can produce graphics with Photoshop) but there are so many features I don't even know about because, well, there are so many other features. I just hope I can get a handle on it all before the next upgrade.

Hope I don't get too personal but it seems we have a few things in common
like CEP/AA, Photoshop, Texas.

I'm a working musician in an oldies band for the last 8 yrs.. Before that I had a host of original projects with varrying degrees of success. Now I'm trying to exert some control over my own songs by learning a bit about how to produce them. I alway felt like I was at someone elses mercy in my studio encounters. I also handle the webpage for the band, such as it is and I do most of the graphics work for same. Trying to learn the whole "packaging" thing at least to the point of pleasing myself and maybe someday producing my own work with a degree professionalism.

The story of my life! I do a lot of graphics, not band related, but musically I record as an engineer and musician and play you-name-it, including oldies (right now we're working up Nights in White Satin and Ferry Cross the Mersey!). I was just in the Austin area last weekend, where I caught a cold: we played in Bastrop. I play harp, Dobro, bass, whatever. Here in Deep E TX we recorded an altXmas album in my studio, and played around to promote it...a state prison, local venues, hell, it's all music, isn't it? Maybe we can get together some time. I lived in Austin back in the '70's (in case you thought I was a kid....)

Hadn' thought about age....except mine is plastered right up at the top of my posts...ha!

Did you play the Gin u Wine Oyster Bar in Bastrop by chance. We'll be there in a couple of weeks. The Fabulous Chevelles started by Charlie Hatchett. The Chevelles (different members then) played my highschool prom in 65.

I'm just happy to be doing what I love most and still feeling like I'm getting better at it and hell making a little money at the same time.

Maybe we can help each other out with this computer stuff.

Gin u Wine Oyster Bar

No, it was Maxine's, a couple of doors down. Most weekends you can hear my stepson in there, and when I make it down there I sit it. Since we've been playing since about '84, we have some songs we know.

As far as computers, I am getting to know a lot more than I wanted to. I got into computer recording and graphics at almost the same time, in '00. I still have both computers...after a fashion. The recording machine is all new except for the case and floppy drive and the graphics one is all new except for the case, the boot drive and the floppy; 98SE has become XP, Cool Edit SE has morphed into AA 1.5, and Photoshop 6 is now CS. Computing may not keep me young, but it sure is working for the computers.

It can be done by Dragon, if Dragon cares to do it. Okay, once again I'll email him and make a request for a forum name change.

hey dobro,

Great! I've been hanging on to Cool Edit 2.0 till I saw something better to upgrade to ...AA 1.5 has a couple of potentially nifty features so I'm feeling more comfortable about the upgrade. It seems that Adobe does have a plan although it's more about integrating the audio with the graphics. I'm not sure I'll ever get around to using all that integration but maybe.

It's for sure this forum won't attract new blood if we're are still stuck in Cool Edit.

they still need ASIO :(

I don't think Dragon can fix that!
