When I was 6 years old my Mom and Dad bought me this really cheap plastic "rock" guitar guitar from Sears. Even the frets were plastic! But, I learned to play it.

A Hauser 12 string. No wait, it was any number of Italian or Japanese electrics we'd buy to smash during our surf medley.

A Memphis Explorer copy. $99, and worth half that. The pickups were definitely not designed properly, and it sounded like absolute butt. It's a wonder I learned to play anything at all when I was starting out.
