Helo Folks,

does anyone use guitar tracks pro ? I don't use midi and I am looking for software multitracking. How does Home Studio 2002 compair ? Which do you think would work best ?

Any advice or comments ?

Thanks

well..i use guitartracks 1.02
cuz it came w/ my jstation.

its really easy and really straightforward.

dont expect to get *WAY* indepth editing.
but...for laying down basic stuff, its good.
It does do directx plugins also.

this is for v 1.02. I dunno about 2 (I tried the trial version before i got jstation, but not long enough)

I just got GT Pro about a month ago and like it so far. I'm new at pc recording though, just got my new pc about the same time as GT ('m running windows XP, P4, 256R, 40 Gs). GT Pro doesn't allow you to use real time effects though (you can only apply effects after recording). the 2.0 version I have came with REValver SE guitar amp simulation which sounds ok but is quite limited on sounds, it also came with fruity loops express which is cool to get ya started on percussion, drum tracks but is also limited in the available drum sounds. Although I haven't used it, I would suggest you get Home Studio(for about the same price) since it allows for real time effects, among other things. So far GT Pro has been cool for me, and very easy to use.

other GT Pro abilities

I've been looking at the Cakewalk stuff and need some input from users.

BTW, the GT Pro allows multi-input recording (>2 tracks), but the HS requires the Sonar package before allowing that. That's a big jump in price from HS XL.

What I need to know is:
Can I export individual tracks from GT Pro in Broadcast .wav formats? This is the .wav format with a time stamp on it so it can be synch'ed up later. I need to do this so I can send the song tracks to another studio for mixing and mastering.

Peace <><

Hmmm...good question. I guess my first answer would be no since I don't see the video import feature as a part of GT. Seems like the only Cakewalk product that supports SMPTE is Sonar. :( Email Cakewalk and find out!!

SMPTE...

I've e-mailed Cakewalk. I got an automated reply saying it will take a day or two to process the information. I'll post back here when I find out.

Cakewalk's reply

I phrased the question two different ways to the Cakewalk people and these are the replies I received.

The first letter to Cakewalk:

>I'm considering buying your Home Studio product to do the track
>recording at my home, but would like to take the tracks to a better
>equipped studio for the mix-down and mastering. Can I export the tracks
>to a .wav or AIFF format to transport them to another studio? There are
>lots of mastering studios in the area and I can never be sure which ones
>can take your .bun format.

They replied:

>You can export from Home Studio as a wav file but you may run into problems
>transferring them to other computers that aren't running Cakewalk. For
>example, if you need to have all the individual tracks for mix down you have
>to export them individually and then get them to line up again in another
>program so that they all play back in synch. Your best bet if you want to
>go with Cakewalk is to find a local studio that would be able to support the
>.bun file format.

The second letter to Cakewalk:

>Which of the Cakewalk recording packages can support exporting to a
>Broadcast .wav format and accept more than stereo inputs?

They replied:

>I don't think that broadcast .wav is actually a separate kind of file from a
>standard .wav. So, you'll want to check out SONAR for exporting .wav's, and
>multiple audio input sound card support.

Well, it seems from their replies that Sonar would be the best way to go, but it's still limited in part to other studios capable of running cakewalk. You can get the .wav's out but their not necessarily in sync. I just don't know how many top quality studio's around here will be running Cakewalk.

Peace <><
