What's the best way to patch a mackie 1604 to RME Multiface

I realy need your help on this one.
I just got a Multiface card,and i have a mackie 1604 VLZ Mixer.
Would you please tell me how to patch these two together.
And also what kind of cable to use .I currently have two snake cables umbalance that im using with my old card .I assume i will need Balanced cable now .
MY SYSTEM:

CUBASE SX ON PC
TRITON
PROTEUS 2000

No the newbie section would be more appropriate.

How do you record? That should dictate how you set it up.

The multiface has 8 analog inputs, why are you using the mixer ? Mic pre's ? if so, stereo out of mackie to input 1&2 on RME using RCA to 1/4" or 1/4"to1/4" or XLRto 1/4" what ever the mackie stereo outs are.

I'm using a mixer because ,i think that's how must people do it.
And i don't think you can go directly from your instrument to the Mutltiface,when you have three or more unit.
That's wy i need to know how you guys do your patching with an 8 ins/outs auiocard.
