original title was "how do i get the best drum recording with THESE mics?", but try as i might, i wasn't able to submit a thread with that title.
We're scrapping together a recording using whatever materials are laying around. We have two SM58's, one SM57, and an unknown mic of an unknown brand. The unknown mic kind of looks like the image below (that's a Milab VM44 Classic), but something tells me that this mic is infinitely cheaper- the cable is permanently attached to the mic, and it has a quarter-inch plug, not XLR. I think the last time it was used, it was placed inside of the bass drum.
Given these limitations, we're trying to figure out what the best mic setup will be. I'm pretty sure that we can't attach anything to the snare, all the mics will be aimed using boom stands. Any suggestions?

)Since you also have a couple extra mics, snare-57, and use your whatever it is mic in the kick. If that doesn't work for the kick, you could try renting a proper kick mic, I was able to rent one for a week for 15 bucks, back before I had more mics to choose from. Cheers, happy tracking.
