Thinking about backing up my drum machine memory to CD as wav.

Any really great deals. Internal or external?

I don't know about great deals...but if you want a guaranteed good writer, get a Plextor. They can be had for pretty cheap; check pricewatch.com. I got a 12x10x32 model for about 90 bucks (I can't remember where from). I had to get it because my Philips crapped out on me. I've learned my lesson; I'll stick with Plextors from now on.

Likewise, I am unsure of "great deals" but the Yamahas have never failed me. They take a real pounding on a daily basis in my office...like 25-50 burns a day, and still keep going. 3+ years for a couple of them so far.

YAMAHA CDW3200E....200$,do a search on net ,and chose,That makes a difference, just make sure you get RapidLinked softburner to go with it...good luck!

You just never know

I've installed three Philips burners in the past year (2 w/98, 1 w/2000) with no problems. But the best part for me was how easily they installed.

Obviously YMMV.

I had mine for about a year and a half before it went south. I suspect I may have hurt it by underpowering it--my computer had only a 200W power supply in it, and when I upgraded from a 500 MHz Athlon to a 700 MHz, I'm sure there wasn't enough power to go around. Maybe the few burns I did before I got a 350W PS in there hurt it? Who knows. Maybe I just got unlucky.
