Hello:

HS2004XL
Edirol PCR80 keyboard
Yamaha DX200 sound module

I'm trying to play the keyboard, have midi go to the DX200, and NOT the Edirol Virtual Synth track in HS.

I've set the keyboard transmit channel to ch. 3, the DX200 to recieve ch. 3, and then, in HS track view, on the Edirol Synth track, I've set the input to ch.1.

For some reason my Keyboard will play the Edirol Synth in HS anyway. If I open up Edirol synth screen, it shows that channel 3 is playing.

Shouldn't my settting the input for the track to ch. 1 have blocked channel three from getting through to the Edirol Synth?

I've tried setting the track inputs, bank channel, whatever else there is there (I'm not a my home computer now) to "none" or all to ch. 1, and just about everything else I can think of in that screen, but I can't get the Edirol synth to not respond to my Keyboard.

The DX200 to the keyboard if the keyboard is set to ch. 3, doesn't if I change the keyboard channel.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Bill

Sounds like you only set the input, but have you tried change it's output?

Edirol VS is multi timbral GM synth. It will recieve all 16 channels simultaneously. If you don't want to use it, then DO NOT map any MIDI track's output into it.

I think it should be as simple as assigning the MIDI track input to your PCR80, and it's output to Yamaha DX200... :)

Or.... do I feel something unclear here?

Thanks your post, James.

I see that your method would work fine. My focus, however, is not how to get the DX200 working in my tracks. I was just thinking I'd like to noodle around on the DX200 for a second, figured I could just address it with a different midi channel (a couple button pushes), and bypass the Edirol VSC. More of an intellectual puzzle than a practical method search, I guess.

So, is the Edirol seeing all 16 channels even if I've set the input to a particular channel just the way things work, and I've been beating my head against the wall for naught?

Cheers,
Bill

Actualy, you don't set Edirol VSC input, instead you set particular MIDI track's output (thru certain channel) into it. Edirol VSC always "open it's mouth". It's MIDI track "feeds" the VSC... :)

Thanks James, I think I'm seeing the light. This means you can arm several tracks, assign them different midi channels, and open only one instance of Edirol, as long as it's polyphony/multimbrality can handle it. Do'oh! I 've been opening a new Edirol for every track. Live and learn.

Bill

P.S. Wait a minute, I just thought of something. I still don't know why Edirol is seeing channels besides the one on the selected track if I've selected only one track. I'm on my way home, I'll mess around tonight and see if I can get it to make sense.
