What's mixing? and mastering?

These questions are really simple but need to know the meaning of these two words 'cuse if not I wouldn't understand the entire forum of mixing and mastering.

Yo Cantos:

When you mix, you put your sounds into a bowl; when you master, you bake the cake.

Mixing allows you to do things to recorded tracks: EQ, Reverb, Compression, panning, etc.

When you master tracks, you put them down, usually, into a set-up in stereo for doing a CD.

First, though, you need to record tracks.:D :D :D :p :p

recording: laying instruments/musicians onto tracks

mixing: creating a stereo composite of individual tracks

mastering: aligning stereo composites such that each composite is at its best and blends well with the other stereo composites within the compilation of stereo composites.
