I've been reading this board with great interest for a couple of months now & decided it was time to register. This is my first post.

In January, I decided to get rid of all of my gear (well, most of it) and start over. I used to be a performer, but now I just play for my own pleasure & hope to do a little recording.

The only synth in my setup now is a Triton Studio 88. Based on recommendations here, I'm using an MXLV67G as my primary recording mike (I have several others). I have a 16-channel Yamaha mixer and a 600-watt amplifier, both of which are left over from my playing days. For backup vocals (or just messing around), I use Voice Works, by TC-Helicon.

While I have SONAR, I have always preferred a hardware-based sequencer (going back to my Roland MC500 days) so I'm mainly using the TTS88 for sequencing. I don't know much about effects, but I am learning - and again, primarily using those on the TS88. With the release of OS 2 for the TS88, I have hard disk recording (only 2 tracks) also on the TS88.

My main controller prior to this was a Yamaha KX88 (I see others here have used that), which I bought new in 1985. The TS88 is the first controller that felt as good to me as that KX88 did.

I'm having fun just playing music.

I like that rack, all within arms reach of the master keyboard. Who makes that ?

Thats made by QuikLok. Its their model Z555 stand plus I added two 6U and three 4U racks (one's underneath). The monitor shelves are part of the base package:

(You may need to cut and paste the link if it wraps)

The thing is built like a tank...I expect to get years of use out of it...

When I started this post I did not anticipate such a large response. I thank everyone who has responded - and I've found it very interesting to see what everyone uses.

I sit in awe and envy of many of you. I thought I was a serious gear slut - but I now realize I'm no more than a puupy.

I plan to print this out and use it the next time my wife suggests that I have "too much stuff".

That is a great idea!
I thought my wife was the only one that complained :)

I am appalled at some of you! All that gear! Just too much stuff lying around. You can get arrested for that.
Time to clean up your basement.

Just to prove what a modest musician I am ...here is what I have:

1) One E 6th string for guitar.
2)One rusty G string for bass.

for keys I use a DW8000 with about 10 gb of sounfonts, a Yamaha non-midi PSR-something, and several softsynths with B4.

OK, first post... Here it goes.

Own:

Kurzweil K2600XS (love this beast)

NI Absynth
Waldorf Attack! (soft)
Stylus
Pentagon

Wishlist:

Thinking of getting Analog Solutions modules, and maybe hooking them up to the K2600 through Live Mode and using the K2600 as part of a modular synth system.

Carbon111, I see you own both a K2600 and nord modular (impressive rack BTW, love the way you've set things up, makes perfect sense). My question to you is how would you compare the K2600 and the nord modular in terms of programming flexibility, modulation matrix, sounds--meaning quality of the VAST DSP oscillators vs the ones in the nord? The usual complaints of VAST aliasing and such is not really an issue with me as I mainly do Industrial music so strange and harsh noises are in my realm (heck, I still haven't upgraded Absynth specifically because it aliases). I feel pretty comfortable with the VAST architecture and I don't think I can live w/o KDFX, but the beast is really heavy. I kind of like the idea of programming a synth on a computer screen, and then tucking it under the arm for gigging. So pretty much what I am getting at, in your experience, can the nord do something that VAST can't? I am kind of torn between the nord and a K2661 for gigging. Any input would be much appreciated.
