we don't need rest!!
for $500, it seems pricey for DAW stuff (not withstanding Nuendo, of course)

I've been using Adobe Audition....like it a lot..very easy..BUT.. Need MIDI, don't like Reaper.

So... Sonar? the extra $200 over the studio edition seems good too,eh? plugs, drummer, etc..

so... I am going to assume, that I should either (1)post this in the calkwalk forum, where everyone says it's great or (2)figure no one uses this program, or either (3), it is too new... or lastly (4) it just plain is too expensive and/or sucks!!

cmon... lets hear a (5)... even a (6)!!!

I'm also looking to upgrade from GT3 - I can get the upgrade to Studio for $150 which isn't too bad. I downloaded the Sonar demo but there still seem to be issues with the uad-1. Release 6.2 is supposedly going to fix that. The literature indicated the ACT thing came with a template for the Novation Remote which I was keen to try, but the demo version doesn't have it.

Maybe I was expecting too much, but I wasn't super impressed with the UI and the product is packed with features I'll most likely never use. I'm planning to hang out for a bit & see how reaper ends up playing with the uad card.

reaper is doing everything it can with the POS UAD setup. Justin got the card a few days ago and is busting his ass with test builds...its working great on my system right now and a few others, but hes exposed some of the problems with the driver I think and will be talking to ua tomorrow maybe

Looks like theyve managed to get the UAD-1 to work across reamote!!! so maybe you wont need a magma system for muliple uad-1's

pipelineaudio isn't the creator of Reaper. He is it's biggest fan, but isn't the guy writing any code.

A lot of it comes down to the way you work. I'm running Sonar 5 and have yet to upgrade to 6, but I'm looking at it. I use a lot of drum loops and really like how Sonar works with loops. It's got some decent plugs but I am using the producer edition. I don't do much MIDI but it's got a lot of features in that area.

The support from Cakewalk is good, way better than a company like Steinberg. Cakewalk updates Sonar once a year but does some incremental updates too.

Download the demo and play around with it. And check out the Cakewalk forums. It's a damn good app.

yeah I dont write code. I look for problems then bug the developer and beg till he fixes it :) The guy is a genious and as long as he's aware of troubles, theyre dealt with quick.

UAD-1 is a POS, the company is really lame about trying to help their customers, has been for Sony Vegas customers, SOund Forge Customers, Acid customers, Sonar customers, etc... they say acceptable workarounds are thing like diabling then re-enabling the plugs EVERY TIME you hit play. Been this way since the card's introduction so thats what were up against

but, this is the dude who made full MCU support though mackie REFUSED to give him an SDK for it, so Im sure itll be working fine soon

Careful! You're talking about the card I love :D

Yeah the uad card lacks power and I've found it to be generally flaky in my setups in its interaction with various sequencers. But man, their plugs sound good

Yup, Im not talking about the sound of the plugs. I got Jimmy to order the fairchild for ours after the demo if that says anything.

I only comment on the useless shmoes behind product support
