what's a good hard drive?

I'm in the market for an internal hard drive for music recording and I would like some suggestions. I'd like to stay around the $200 mark. Should I only be looking at 10K RPM models or is it not that big of a difference using 7200 RPM?

dude, go Seagate Barracuda IV or V. quietest hard drives ever. DO NOT get 10,000 rpm drives, their loud as hell, and if they aren't loud they have a high pitched noise to them.

go to newegg.com and get it there. you needn't spend 200 bucks on hard drives unless you want like over 200 gigs of space...which i don't think you need.

i have 80 and i still have like 60 gigs left.

i would recommend buying two 80 gig hard drives. or an 80 and a 120.

buy seagate.
 
I'm using a 10GB drive for my OS, and an 80GB drive for my audio files.

I'm only using 3.8GB of the Windows drive, with very little apps installed.
And I'm using 14GB of the audio drive, but that could fill up fast.

Definatley get a new Western Digital drive; 72,000RPM. Quietest ones I've heard!

And definatley check out www.newegg.com - they have some awesome deals!
 
I use Western digital 7200rpm drives with 8MB caches. They also have 3 year warranties.

they treat me very well.

I'd take a Maxtor Liquid Bearing 7200rpm drive over a WD.

The bearings on my WD went tits up after about 2 years, and the Maxtors are noticeably quieter than WD.
