what's a good enough soundcard for the POD?

Hey,

I was just wondering if my Soundblaster AWE 64 (fairly old card) would give me good enough results if I were to record w/ the POD?

Would I notice significantly better sound quality if I used an Audiophile or Echo MIA?

depends on what you call "good enough"....for just rough demos, it shoould be good enough......

You would notice a significant difference with many sources, but if you're recording distorted/compressed guitar you already have a fairly limited frequency response and dynamic range, so the difference would be much less pronounced. But seriously, an AWE64? I don't think that's even full duplex. I would at least upgrade to an Audigy. That in itself would be a nice jump in quality. OEM versions can be had for around $60.
 
The AWE64 was full duplex if you downloaded
the proper drivers from creative....not sure if
it was full duplex right out of the box. The
playback was only 8 bit, thus very noisy when
recording overdubs. This limitation did not
affect the recorded material.

If you're talking about taking analog out of the POD (and not SPDIF with the Pro), then of course the soundcard will play a large factor in your sound quality, just like it would for any analog source.

where's the old Slack we know and love that would say the Pod will suck no matter what you plug it into?......
 
I never said the POD sucked, or that was never my intent. I have said that the POD doesn't sound real, and if it does you're deaf :)

Tell that to the studios here in Nashville. These guys have been micing amps for years, but now they are using the pod or j-station.
 
And the music coming out of Nashville these days is unreal...

If I owned a studio I'd line it with POD's too! Seriously, it makes sense.

if you record with a Pod, you wont need all those amps and mics...then you can aford more ho's.....every studio needs a few hos.....
