I'm gonna record music on my computer, and I need a drum machine program. something that I can make all drum loops and save it as .wav or .mid. i tried hammerhead already, but it doesn't offer long tracks and i can't seem to save it into a wave or midi file. would Fruity Loops do the job? I'm trying to record things from scratch, all guitars, bass, and drums played/looped by me. so what drum machine would I need? thanks.

ive built all sorts of loops for friends using powertracks(pgmusic.com)
plus you get a great 48 track digital recorder thrown in for 29 bucks.
all sorts of styles of music are built in.
or for free check out hotstepper (uses real drum/synth samples).

Battery by Native Instruments has always worked for me. I use that with an akai mpd16 for laying down beats. But if you want to program beats on a 16step grid and could make use of some synths and samplers, then fruity loops or propellerhead reason are nice.

with a decent selection of single hit samples Fruity Loops can be very versatile and realistic at the same time. Always worked for me. You can here a sample at Lemontree The last song I used Fruity Loops on was BLAMELESS

Try JAZZ++ from www.jazzware.com ( it's free )

You can create your own drum patterns, as midi.
You can Then PLAY ( in a loop or not ) and record as WAV
I have found some nice midi drum patterns on the net

hey! i did fake plastic trees! but i'm sure yours is many times better :)..mine involved a closet and 2 microphones hanging from the closet bar. come to think of it thats where most of my stuff came from! I'll give it a listen when I'm not in an .mp3 filtered environment!

I wanted to 2nd the vote for fruityloops..if you want lots of flexibility and creative headroom Fruity Loops (FL Studio) is awesome..

FLStudio. It can be a drum machine, you can program patterns on a grid like on a drum machine. But it also has a piano roll if you want to go nuts. And patterns can be different lengths. And you can use any samples you want. And unlike a lot of cheapie programs, the included efx and synths are killer. And as you learn more and more, you can do more with it.
