What's a Flat Monitor?

John Sayers

Solar Power!!
My old Proview 17" finally fell over so I went out and got an LCD.

I have now realised that I've been lightening all the pics on my site (because the old 17" was dying) but what is the equivalent of flat on a puter monitor?

I remember back in TV days they would place a pickup on the TV screen and measure the RGB pixels and balance them, so what do we do with a puter monitor??

cheers

The way I do it is to scan a photo, and compare the screen image to the scan.

Not scientific, but it works reaosnably well for color/tone matching.

Their DisplayMate product is supposed to help you calibrate your monitor.

I use some of their test patterns (they used to have a few available for download!) to set up my LCD monitors when I'm doing image editing. They are very helpful in getting the basic brightness/contrast/color temp settings correct and avoiding major mistakes.

Thanks guys - sorry for not getting back - weekend, footy finals and all that.

David - I don't have photoshop but I do remember them having that feature -

Don - thanks for the link to displaymate - it looks like what I'm after -

Bruce - if all else fails I'll try your system :):)

cheers
