Recently I got my DP(yamaha p155) which functions as a midi controller most of the time with Cubase5 and Ivory sample library. I had a few attempts to record it through Cubase and mixdown to a Mp3 file.It was absolutely terrible..It didn't sound like the same when I was playing.Would it be better using a better soundcard or an audio interface since I am only using a onboard soundcard at the moment. If it does improve ,any suggestion of audio interface to record on pc? I am completely new to the field of recording. If there is anything wrong ,plz point it out..

Sry for my shitty English.. Still learning it ~~:)

When you export to mp3 the soundcard is not even used.

If it sounds 'terrible' your mp3 settings may be wrong.
(to get a small file size, mp3's throw out 80% of the data)

Check the mp3 export settings and make them larger. That should help.

I see .but if i wanna improve the quality of the recording ,what should i do?is it related to the software I use?(would the quality of the sound from vst be better using audio interface?

Did the recording sound good, when you were listening back in Cubase? If yes, then the problem is in export settings.

Audio interface will not improve sound quality as long as you are recording just midi. However dedicated interface will probably put out cleaner signal than the built in one. Also good interface with good drivers can help decrease latency if that's a problem.
