I've got a digital in and a digital out on my soundcard, it's the optical ones. If i have a digital mixer or a mixer w/ a ADAT lightpipe I/O can i use that to record?

Like if I put plug everything into my mixer can i use the ADAT lightpipe I/O on it to go right into my computer's soundcard. Will I be able to record individual tracks? Like if i record two guitars and vocals will it appear as three seperate tracks on my computer? Thanks guys.

Lightpipe is eight channels of up to 24 bit, 48 KHz digital audio.
If your sound card has a stereo optical set up, TOSLINK, it's really S/PDIF which is stereo and the two are not compatible.

Take a good look at your soudcard and mixer docs. If one is toslink and the other adat, both are not compatible as Ncuab said. But some of those I/O's are switchable. So, if your soundcard is switchable, you get 8 channels, if the mixer is switchable, you can still work with 2 chanels.
