Im pretty experienced when it comes to web design n' i got ta thinkin today ;) ... We all post new material everyday, new beats, new vocaled tracks, etc, and were all tryin ta get noticed and make it big. So how perfect would it be ta have a specific website with profiles, music downloads, whatever for each of us here at HR? Get everyones names out, and have links to our soundclicks n whatnot for listening. It'de be great to have a picture of everyone for the profiles also... I dunno i just thought it'de be tight but I would need some time to get it all together so lemme kno whatchu guys think... Peace

think it's a great idea. Also on this subject, I was going to ask if anyone wanted a ****@mindsetentertainmentinc.net email address. I just added 1,000 more email accounts (they are only 10mb each though :( ) Also went ahead and got another 100GB/1,000GB transfer hosting if ya need space.

opps... got a server in Linux accidentally... hopefully everything works the same???

it came with the domain name I registered for 10 years. I just registered inmultiples.info for $.99 a year :D  oh, and through www.godaddy.com I then went through them for hosting, which gives x amount of extra emails & x amount of other crap. I thought mindsetentertain..... was kinda long for anything like www.blahblah.mindsetentertainmentinc.net lol, so I just bought inmultiples.info

There's other domain registry places & hosting services, but like 4 years ago or something like that they were opening up and had a sale for like $2 dollars or some crap per year domain names, I jumped on it of course.

wrd im a look into that..... i think i remember when they was first coming out well at least i remember go daddy cause they had that commerical on the super bowl wit the chick and she like flashed a judge or somethin if i remember right but yea im a look into that tho.....

I guess I don't get what it "adds" to our exposure that Soundclick, Myspace, Purevolume, Uber, and our own personal sites don't...

Building a website for the sake of building one is, well, pointless....

Unless you have a marketing plan to gain exposure for the sites, and a reason to draw people to them, it won't make a difference at all. If the music downloads is the draw, people will say "Why not use Soundclick or Myspace?"... If the profile is the draw, same deal... Without links and advertising on the site, you'll never even get noticed.

I hate to be "that guy" all the time, but... This is what I do for a living, folks. I'm a marketing manager for a billion dollar software company. Trust me... your idea is fine if you just want to do it. But in terms of execution, it has no successful draw.

Mindset,
Look into the Gmail interface for personal domains. With it, you can have mindsetentertainment.com e-mail addresses that have 2GB+ of storage.

i'm quite positive you know more than me when it comes to this, but this was the same thing i thought when i read the initial post.

I like the idea for a website for us. Now, the thing is that you want to make money from it to. Cause it cost money to run it also. Unless, you have a hook up on a free server. But, domain costs too. So, we might want to be able to post beats, albums or what not for sale or have an ad section. I can advertise for the site to get traffic also along with Google ranking.

Sounds like a good idea. Now would this be a manual updated site or PHP where each person can add info and beats?

A good quality site takes time to make and update. You want content to be fresh and updated all the time. Venom, what was your vision and how long would it take you to do? Also, you have to see how many hours it will take you. Cause I'm the kind of guy who thinks people should get back what they put in. Feel me? If you do an amazing job and put in time, all of us have to find ways to compensate or get revenue from the site. I always think bigger then making a site. You want it to grow.

May vision would be a producer group like we have here. My site is more resources and beats. So, it's different. I could link to the site we make for us.

Now, there are all these beat sites on the web. So, what will make us stand out? I always give high quality content and service. That's what I try to use to stand out. I don't have profiles, I like that idea for our site...

I see both sides of the spectrum.

I see where Venom's coming from (I think). I'm seeing this as kind of a semi-private network and resource connection. This might be something Venom puts on his resume (nothing wrong with that).

But I also see Change's side of this as well...if it's not going to be profitable why do it (for the most part) unless it's just something you want to do? I also tend to lean more towards this side and this is why...

Some of us have our own sites outside of and Soundclick (etc.). Me personally, when I get around to finishing the designs I had in store for my site for Hammerback Records, I got no problem hooking you guys up with whatever you need on that route just (like putting a banner somewhere on my site of your new album that's coming or letting you use some bandwidth and space to store some mp3s for a little while so you can download directly from a website) just out of support. I just expect the same from you. You get what you put in. I've even offered people free custom made banners and website demos just because I don't mind helping out here and there (just don't rush me).

In all honesty, I kind of like how it is now. Some people don't respect our music, don't think we should be here in the forums, and think we should just leave. Why give them the satisfaction if we work together, support each other, and see things more on the same level just as they do (if not more).

Farting and hopping off the soapbox while blaming it on the dog,
Fiev.

i see it as a positive and i'm down to help out anyway i can (even tho i don't know much) but i could write some articles i guess or headlines but designing is not gonna happen wit me lol i don't have anything other than a myspace and soundclick page and they are just basic pages i was considering doing the e-commerce on both sites but if we all gonna do one big site wit e-commerce i'll be down for that

All the things brought up are good. You always want to get all the questions answered before moving forward. Now, my question is does everyone have time to do this? Cause this is not a small task. And from my view, I never want to do anything half way. It's about quality. Not just making another site. I think all of us need to tell what we can offer to the site and then see if it's possible.

Here's what I can do.

E-commerce
Driving traffic
SEO site optimization

I can't really do graphics right now cause I have so many projects going on...

I can write the articles and promos and help out with ideas for layouts other than that not much i can do :(

So now we have to our disposal, a group of like minded individuals, web developers, up to 75gb of hosting, and the products. I also have $200 dollars in google word credit or whatever, in which part of it can be used for this site. Do any of you know the languages to put this site together for more dynamic content? All the log-ins by users, and uploads, and profiles etc, seems like somewhat hard work, but doable. I'm just waiting for this hosting service, and FTP will be up, and I'll PM the same username & password to get in there for now.

Ya. I like Godaddy. I registered multiple versions like .biz, .info, .net... of my site so no one can take them. They have good deals for domains.

So Mindset, you saying we have a server?

Basically yeah, I got it with godaddy too. I just got one for the 100GB package. So basically about 75GB cause I'll be hosting my own smaller website which will probably take up no more than 100mb lol.

As of now im not familiar with PHP enough to code up something like that by myself. Maybe with tuorial help or help from my programming teacher it may be possible. But as of now it would be a manual update. The time into making it, from start to finish, would probably be a few weeks though. Maybe up to a month or more.

I can code, design, create graphics, flash, etc.

It is hard work, and it is doable. But as far as i come along im not capable of user log-ins and uploads. At least not at the moment like i said. However, its possible in the near future.

and I understand exactly what your saying actually. But i didnt even think of it before, and im sorta sided with your opinion now because of all the factors i CANT do. I never even thought of log-ins and upload capabilitys and im not experienced enough for something that advanced yet. So maybe this wasnt a good idea? We'll see...

...

Actually uploading stuff isn't that hard for us. At least I don't think so. Here's a whole bunch of scripts http://php.resourceindex.com/Complete_Scripts/File_Management/File_Uploading/

I got a few upload scripts, some that don't require a sql database, some do. always could create one.

logging in...

That's a different story. I don't know where to start. Maybe you can ask your teacher where you can get those type of scripts at.

A uploading/downloading script.

$limitedext = array(".gif",".jpg",".png",".jpeg",".mp3",".wav",".aiff",".sf2"); //Extensions you want files uploaded limited to.

also found this site that has a LOT of nice scripts

http://www.free-scripts.net/cgi/fileuploading.shtml

Forgot to mention because it may be misleading

I didn't get a 'server' as in dedicated servers, or avirtual server , it's a hosting service through Godaddy.com, shared server is basically what it is.

Yeah thats what i was saying... I dont have the scripting knowledge like i do with HTML and graphic design... but with help (scripting sites, teachers) it is possible, so this could could be the answer if we do decide to do this... :)
