I've got about three hundred right now to drop into my studio but don't know where to put it.

A used AT4050?
Matched pair of MXL 603s?
Waves Power Pack V5?
Lava Lamp collection?
Soft-Synth (pick one for me please)?
Acoustic room treatments?

As of now I have an 18 x 22 room with a few weird angles, heavy curtains on 40% of the walls, and a couple full bookcases. A pair of SP B1's, an SM57 and an AKG d112 to cover my drum kit. I pull down the B1's to track VOX and acoustic guitar, either the B1 or SM57 on Guitar cabs. The mics go into either a M-Audio DMP3, ART DPSII or Yamaha MG12/4, then M-Audio Delta 1010 and into Cakewalk Homestudio 2004XL on a highpowered custom built PC.

get mxl 993s out of the new musicians friend catalog for $170

....the 993s are a bit hotter than the 603...i think a mxl spokesman referred to them as having a little more sizzle. none the less.....i got a used pair for $155 w/shipping on ebay from another hr.com'er. i would try to get the 603s and some acoustic room treatments.

save 20 bucks out and go get a lava lamp.....you only need 1. more than 3 is just obnoxious unless you have the beads hanging from the door and pillows all over the floor with a sitar player somewhere in the corner

a bottle of Kristol - you need to represent - what better way than a $300 bottle of booze. you know, just in case Cribs is coming - you wanna look pro don't you?

I'd get another Tascam 388

...................!!! ;)

Lava lamps all the way baby!

or so me room treatment :p

for $300 you can buy a bunch of auralex stuff,
but is it really worth the money, in that price range you don't get basstraps, just smaller foam and stuff....will that really change something in a rooM?

i'm kinda thinking the same thing...i do'nt want to spend another $300 on a preamp or something , or i'm gonna save to buy me something big at newyear or i'm gonna do some simple room treatment stuff.....
but of course don't know where to start..

I got a pair of mxl 603s and i love em...thats my 2 cents....but i only paid 100 for the pair...so that would technically leave you another 200 for your lava lamps...

I second notbradsohner.

Based on your gear list... monitors should be your next immediate purchase...

if you don't know what you should do with the money

then don't do anything. it won't burn a hole in your pocket and soon enough you will find something that you KNOW you want. Keep saving and it can be something really cool.

buy all your homerecording.com/bbs buddies a round.........or a midget hooker, a motel room, and a used camcorder. :D

monitors would be a good choice.

Sennheiser MD421. It's time to start building the collection of "keeper" mics..-Richie

Nobody voted for the AT4050 so I will. It's probably not your first priority but it's a great mic with few detractors and lot's of pro users. And it's extremely versitile!

Bass traps

VTgreen...
Acoustics treatment.
Didn't read like you have anything other than your bookshelfs and thick curtains.

FRONT WALL-
DIY ..Ethans Bass 703 traps, Corner traps.....a $100 worth at least.
Maybe a few Foam Corner Wedges... $100
