What would you recommend to a new Rock fan?

Yeah, Bad Co. is real good.......I like how they recorded The song Bad Company out in a field!! Room acoustics,?...We don't need no stinkin' room acoustics! :D

I even like Holy Water which is a long stretch from their earlier works. :)

Didn't like my spelling earlier? :o

Rick

Nobody's mentioned Deep Purple yet :o

For the love of God don't get any of their later stuff though.
Try 'Deep Purple In Rock'.

"Fire" Jimi Hendrix
"Ramble On" Led Zepplin
"Good Mornin' Little School Girl" Ten Years After- has a good bass/guitar/drum jam in the middle of the song.
"Bad Scene" Ten Years After
"Lemon Song" Led Zepplin- Another good jam song.
"Orion" Metallica (instrumental)
"Call of Ktulu" Metallica (instrumental)
"Fade To Black" Metallica (one of their more mellow songs)
"The Wall" Pink Floyd
"Time" Pink Floyd- Pretty much the entire "Dark Side of the Moon" album.
"Johnny B. Goode" Chuck Berry
"Jail House Rock" Elvis Presly (old version)
Lots of stuff by The Dave Mathews Band.
"Another Thing Comin'" Judas Priest
"Communication Breakdown" Led Zepplin
"How Many More Times" Led Zepplin
"Power Slave" Iron Maiden
"Born to be Wild" Steppenwolf
"For What It's Worth" Buffalo Springfield
"Sweet Home Alabama" Skynyrd (I think)

For a more Skaish type sound
"Santaria" Sublime
"Wrong Way" Sublime
"Caress Me Down" Sublime
"Date Rape" Sublime
"What I got" Sublime
"Smoke Two Joints" Sublime
"April 29th, 1992" Sublime

-----Back to rock-----
"Black Magic Woman" Santana
"Smooth" Santana with That fruit from Matchbox 20
"Oye Como Va" Santana

"Voodoo Chile" Both the Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn versions are good
"Soul Man" Blues Brother's version (I haven't heard the original)

Just a few off the top of my head. Based on the songs you listed, you'd probably like the zepplin and hendrix stuff the best.

here are some old obscure favs of mine, the album or CD followed by the artist, most, if not all of it, is not really rock in the true sense of the word.
Some of them are difficult to find and can only be had on vinyl. You may hear one or two tunes from the Moody Blues alblums on the air once in awhile, as for the others, unless you are listening to a college station you will probably never hear anything from them. I have heard one or two covers from the "Love Forever Changes" get some air play and "Chestnut Mare" from the Byrds
"Untitled" album gets some airplay every now and then.

"Phantasmagoria"-Curved Air
"Untitled"-Byrds
"Love Forever Changes"-Love
"The Grass is Greener"-Colloseum
"Songs for a Tailor"-Jack Bruce
"The Beat Goes On"-Vanilla Fudge"
"A Question of Balance"-Moody Blues
"To Our Childrens Childrens Children"-Moody Blues
"Deliverin"-Poco
"Playback"-Appletree Theatre
"Psi-Fi"-7th Wave

I forgot about the Moody Blues!!! I used to listen to them all the time when I was younger. I'm actually going to go out and buy one of their albums right now.

Creedence Clearwater stuff is good too.

Their "Made in Japan" has always been one of my fave 70s-rock live albums--the first cut "Highway Star", in particular, absolutely sizzles with Blackmore's guitar energy.

Yeah - that album shows what a great live band they could be.
