I'm thinking:

- Lenny Kravitz-Mama Said (intro)
- Deep Purple-Burn
- Iron Maiden-Phantom of the Opera
- Dire Straits-Money for nothing
- Rolling Stones-Jumping Jackflash
- Van Halen-I'm the one (intro)

It's impossible to determine "best rock riff" but I'll try :)
Earache my eye : Cheech&Chong ( Rollins also did that one )
Godzilla : Blue oyster cult
Divine wind : Blue oyster cult
a lot of Zappa's stuff - can't decide what to mention so I'll just shout it out :
ZAPPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

;)

The one George T stole from Willie Dixen (Bad to the Bone).

IMHO:

Beatles - Day Tripper
Cream - Politician
GNR - Sweet Child of Mine
Doors - Light My Fire

KB

Stones= Start me up
Metalica= Enter Sandman
The Cult= Wild Flower
The Cult= Firewoman
Aerosmith=Love in an Elevator

It is all personal taste obviously so..........

I would say "Reeling in the Years"
Steely Dan......

Killer lead guitar....

Good call!

Daytripper, yeah, that ones pretty cool.
But when the guitars start in "Paperback Writer", they rule too.

BTW, Trebles, I'm talking all-time best riffs here, so your Birdman-stuff will do little harm to my list, I think.

Oh, and "Changes" from Hendrix (Band of Gipsys)

GNR - Sweet Child of Mine
Tool - Forty Six & 2
Manson/Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams
Linkin Park - One Step Closer (the song annoys the hell out of me, but this riff is rather catchy and well done.)
Godsmack - Voodoo
Anything by Alice in Chains
Same goes for A Perfect Circle... ;)
Coldplay - Shiver
Collective Soul - December
Garbage - Paranoid
Garbage - Vow
Garbage - Not My Idea
Nirvana - Lithium
Nirvana - All Apologies
Nirvana - Heart-Shaped Box
Nirvana - Come as You Are(even though this is a knock off of The Cure's "The Eighties")
No Doubt - Just a Girl..lol..i like it.
Red Hot Chilli Pappers - Too many to name....
Smashing Pumpkins - Same as above
Soundgarden - Same as above big time
NIN - yet again, same as above..

Even though it's simple, Elvis Costello's "Pump it Up" is a good one. Also "(I Don't Want To Go To) Chelsea" from the same album. Don't know about best of all time, though.

Mr. Bungle's "The Girls of Porn" is good too.
