what should i get to use my maudio 1814 unbalanced inputs. im not sure if i should get mic pres or a mixer with outputs. to be honest im not sure what outputs id need from the mixer. so what should i get to power my mics so i can use these inputs for multitracking. the term unbalanced is throwing me off a little too. i hope this makes sense.

thanks

You'd need either dedicated preamps or a mixer that has channel inserts (or direct outs). Either way. Anything with line level output is fine.

any suggestions? my budget is roughly around 300-350. the cheaper the better but id like a unit with decent quality pres.

For something with 6 pres? Peavey PV10? Of course, that's about the only thing I can think of with 6 pres, so.... :D

But seriously, my PV8 sounds pretty clean to my ears. The biggest risk, IMHO, is you might decide they're cleaner than the pres in your FW1814 and wish you had two more. They seem very slightly cleaner to my ears, though mainly when I'm cranking ribbon mics way up. You might consider the PV14 so you'd have eight... well... ten... identical pres.

I'm sure other folks will have plenty of suggestions as well.

Ask in a forum that's more geared towards preamps. This isn't really a computer question. The mic forum is probably the most appropriate forum.
