I am about to make the jump to surround mixing, but have a delema... I currently have a DAW running CubaseVST24, but it does'nt support 5.1. So I'm wondering if I should upgrade to Nuendo or Logic? Also, someone said there was an upgrade from vst to Nuendo from steinberg that should be cheaper than buying Nuendo itself. I will be doing 5.1 & multi media.

What would you get? I need pro results.
Thanks,
Kirk out.

upgrade from cubase to nuendo or buy nuendo off ebay. i run nuendo and cubase vst32, nuendo is great and its not gonna take you for ever to learn it like logic. logic 5 seems to be good though

Nuendo!

Nuendo is becoming one of the PC platforms that mastering engineers are using for mastering. So it will allow you some growth that goes beyond multi-tracking and mixing.

Peace,
Dennis

Nuendo!! it's amazing. im using it for mastering and now and again i use it to edit vocals and stuff (i have hardware recorders which i like using).

get it, it's an awesome system.

Nuendo rules!!! There are little things that make it so much better than cubase. The editing capabilities for audio alone are well worth the upgrade. If you're used to cubase, nuendo will be an easy switch, much easier than logic. Go for nuendo.

im not too happy with the midi though.
but it's little things like the ruler line when you put the mouse over the waveform that does it for me. it's got that cubase feel but has some fab extras.

im having a wierd problem....

ive been running Nuendo with several systems/soundcards in my studio, all have been ok, except one.

im running 8 analog line level inputs into the soundcard and setting up cubase to record these 8 inputs on seperate channels...as usual.

but... (btw, this is the maxi studio card), adjusting the input faders in the software mixer does nothing, so when im running stuff from my HD recorders straight into Nuendo, a lot of channels clip like f**k, and i cant change! i dont want to go through the mixer , so is there a way of adjusting input level?

Sorry for joining in so late,
but what is wrong with the midi? Is it not as good as Cubase?

Thanks

put it this way, it's more aimed towards audio. it's the little things like no pans for midi and no volume faders or anything. you have to draw it all in the editor.

nuendo's power is fantastic though.

So what would you say are the biggest differences between Nuendo and Cubase?

Nuendo is a much more powerfull tool for audio. it's a lot more stable, ability to playback more tracks, etc.

the audio editing facilities is much more aimed at professionals in Nuendo. it's also little things like as you're recording, it shows you the waveform in real time, like in Pro Tools. it's quite similar to protools in a few ways.

automation editing is a lot better, surround sound mixing capability, 32 bit floating point mastering, lots of applications for nuendo.

it has a much more solid feel than cubase. i still run Cubase, and I run either Pro Tools and sometimes Nuendo along side Cubase. i dont care for the midi much in Nuendo. it's still compatible with VST plugins (such as Waves)

It has the capability of importing cubase files into Nuendo which is great. it can import EDL's from Premiere, has support for remotes, you have to try it.

the thing that attracted me was that, i get a lot of people bringing in stuff done in Cubase for me to mix, so Nuendo was great because it has a solider, professional feel to it, and i could load their cubase stuff into it.

Hmmm...thanks for this Romesh. Sounds like I'm going to have to take a closer look at it.

make sure you do, it's a really good program. ive heard people have argued that the software is a contender for pro tools. the hardware is another question, but there is some good HW available for Nuendo at the moment.

Well, what I understand about ProTools is that the pros usually bypass the hardware and use converters from Apogee, Lucid, Swissonic and those. Pretty ironic considered the price tag.

BTW are you on Mac or PC?

Im using it on PC.

i think some of the HW intended for Pro Tools can be used with Nuendo. there are a few 2496 cards out for Nuendo at the moment, i thinik some are designed with Nuendo's 5.1 capability in mind.

OK, then how would you rate Nuendo compared to logic?
I have a friend who says I should dump CubaseVST24 for logic 5 because he thinks logic is a "real program" and cubasevst is bellow logic.

What would you rather have... Nuendo or Logic for audio work & why?

Thanks

well, thing is, as long as you have two similar priced parts of the emagic or steinberg packages, there is always something that one cant do kinda thing. but thing is, there are a lot of people who were brought up on cubase, and some who started with Logic. personally, i HATE logic. somthing about it which i just cant stand. but sometimes i have to use it if im hired to work in another studio.

Nuendo really kills logic. Nuendo has been compared several times to Pro Tools. so that hits logic out of the equation in my opinion. i really dont like logic that much. Cubase 5 VST 32 is AMAZING. it's really good. and much of Nuendo's technology is based around cubase 5.

I personally would choose Nuendo, or Cubase over logic anyday. some people like logic, others hateit. i personally dont like it.

What path do I follow, if I want to upgrade from Cubase VST24 to Nuendo? I tried finding it one one of their many confussing websites to no avail! How much is it to upgrade?
Thanks,
Sponge Bob
