What to do about floor and ceiling

Blick-um, blick-um...
I'm gearing up to redo my recording space and would really like to hear all of your suggestions. I've got everything "covered" but the floor and ceiling.

Problem #1 is the sheetrock ceiling, which is only 7 ft high. So hanging traps or clouds does not really appear to be an option. I'm renting, and the landlord does not want me to tear out the ceiling. :( How do you cut the relections w/o killing the sound of the room?

problem #2 is the concrete floor, with two layers of carpet. The carpet "used to be" off white (tan) but after all the jamming, jack & coke, beer, and wine spills the carpet is now a hideous looking dark murky muddy color  . It's gotta go, and I was wondering if a specially absorbent carpet would be better than a laminate floor with a drum rugs, etc.

The room is 14x20, with real pine panelling (pleasant sound). I have the Real Traps room kit, which has worked wonders - some hanging on walls and others on stands throughout the room. The room sounds pretty decent so far, but I'm always trying to improve things.

Your comments are very much appreciated. Thanks, Rez

I meant "absorbent" for sound, not for spills... :D

Whats wrong with clouds? Hopefully you can find the joists to hang them from. When you want to remove, just spackle it. That is after you take out the rugs.

Head in the clouds?

I just figured the clouds would hang down too low and get in the way of everything, including the heads of people over 6 ft tall. ;)
