basically i want to start my own little studio up and i a bit stuck on how to go about it.

Im a drummer and want to record drums so need something that has 7 or 8 input for the mics and overheads.

This is what i currently have acquired:
-Sony Sound Forge software
-drum mic's including 2 overheads and 5 dynamic
-computer (obviously aha)
-Soundcraft e12 mixer- even though this has no bus out or outputs in the channels i have read that i can change the insert's to outputs by using a ts to trs patch cable.

Yeah bit stuck on how to connect and what sound card or interfce i would need to make this posible

After many hours of research on the internet i have found this
http://www.rme-audio.de/en_products_multiface_2.php

could anyone tell me if i am going about this the right way or is there a better and cheaper way to do so

preferably this product is to expensive for me and wondered if anyone knew of a cheaper alternative :P

cheers

There are cheaper solutions than the RME. Get an interface that has 8 preamps that way you don't need the mixer. There are a lot of options for interfaces with 8 preamps. MOTU, Presonus, Tascam, M-Audio...they all have interfaces with 8 preamps. You can usually get a good used one for $200-$300. I've used a Presonus Firepod and currently use a Presonus Firestudio. I've been happy with both. Make sure that whichever you choose has the in/outs that you need for your setup.
