what time do you record?

Usually in the mornings or mid day on the weekends. Since I keep myself busy at school and work during the week, it's easier for me to do the recording in the weekends when the girlfriend is asleep (or gone). Since my studio is in the spare bedroom of the house and right in between the master bedroom and the kid's bedroom, I have to be careful not to wake anyone up. Plus, I like to record without people around me who aren't involved in the song, it helps me focus more. I'll make beats/instrumentals whenever the idea hits me though because I'll slap on some headphones while I record the idea down and then mix it later without the headphones. Same goes for mixing, I'll do that anytime.

I've been trying to keep it business like, regular hours sort of thing. 10 AM-10Pm Mon. thru Thur, 10AM-Midnight Fri & Sat, this dosen't always work out and the occasional late night session does occur. Mixing is a lot more flexable and often occurs in the wee hours of the morning, when I am least likely to be disturbed.

Most of my tracking gets done on weekends and I spend weeknites mixing. I'll generally burn off 3 or 4 coasters before I have a burn I like. Does this seem normal or am I still in bone-head stage? :D

Eventually I'm going to have to do that too, once I decide to lease space (with as much insurance as I can afford, both for my equipment and myself).

Say if I'm sleeping and I wake up at like 3AM i'll get up and record it...even it it sounds like crap, all I want to do is get the idea out then later make it better lol. I usually like to wake up early and spend all day recording if I have a chance, but because of school, I usually record like 4PM to like 10PM because I have a little sister and everyone else likes to sleep..lol. But on Friday I can start at 4 and maybe stop at liek 2 AM. Same with saturday only I can wake up early (depends on if i've had a late night or not). Then sunday I can record until like 10PM. Some days I'll wake up early before school and I'll record before hand. mixing on the other hand, if I can mix at low levels then I can do it any time :)

If its like a summer day or a day where I can record all day, I like to give the musicians time to set up, if we started at 7 then we wont record until like 10 once they;ve warmed up. :) I really like working late though, I like stopping for like 5 minutes, going out side and enjoying the peaceful air :)

i prefer to due it in the evening, but i always find myself recording late at night.
i went up the the studio at 11:00 pm the other night, and didnt leave until 5 am.
thats how it usually ends up.

i think i prefer to play alone at least 75% of the time, late at night with no prying ears. this way, i just don't feel inhibited or judged and i don't have any expectations to fullfil; i feel very free and no one's opinion has an effect on how or what i play. is this strange or kind of ill? i think this is when i'm at my best and this is the stuff that i want to capture with recording.

TravisinFlorida, I totally agree with you... I like being alot where noone judges you and your all alone!!

I usually start recording at 12 pm on week ends. The day can last from 5-10 hours. On week days, I start recording after I get out of my day job. Usually from 5-10pm.

I am usually booked every week end. This means it takes a while for me to get a day off. Then again, I enjoy recording alot, so it isn't a chore.

In the rare times I do anything, it's always late at night after I have sat around playing guitar and when I should be going to bed to get ready for work. Then for some reason I'll get all keen to record. Why oh why I don't do it when I get home from work I don't really know. Probably because I feel like shit then.
