Looking for a good, quality soundcard. Tell me what you guys are using... Looking for recommendations.

So just post:

Name/Brand of Soundcard:

How Happy Are You with it:

Cost:

RME Hammerfall 96/32 -- it rocks

Audiophile 24/96 for monitoring purposes -- good enough for what I need it for - never recorded with it, not likely to!

Before Gidge's autoreply-script sets into action, I may mention that the M-Audio Delta series seems to be very popular around here.

:D

yep, Delta makes some damn fine cards...i have the Audiophile 2496 and its great for HOMErecording......$160 US

im also a fan of Aardvark cards........

what are your input/output needs and what type of results are you looking for (demo, pro CD quality,)

M-Audio Delta 1010- 8 analog 2 S/PDIF in/out
Works great for me, AMS has it the cheapest for like $570, and i think Sam Ash has it for about that after a rebate.

I am looking to record vocals for hip-hop over instrumentals and maybe get into instrumental production later... Would the Audiophile work for this?

I am also looking at the Delta 1010 series, but there's like a whole bunch of them...

Delta 1010-ai, Delta 1010 - LT, and the Delta 1010.
It looks like the ai and 1010 are like controllers or something, so I guess it's just the 1010-LT, but I'm not really sure... lol... :)

What's the difference?

I am really lost here... I just want something that will allow me to record good quality vocals over instrumentals and maybe have enough ins/outs to allow me to hook up a sythesizer/turntable later if I decide to get into production.

I'm also looking for a micpre (which I guess is something I need). If anyone can recommend one of those, I'd also be much obliged.

Keep the recommendations and information coming, I appreciate it a lot, guys.

Hey Gidge,
Im lookin to buy the audiophile. Quick question, can you instruct this card to record at 24/44.1 instead of 24/96 ? You might ask why? I read another post that said at 24/96 it takes a tremendous amount of time to process and such. Maybe this is not a good idea, dont know. I've been using the emagic audiowerk8, max. resolution 16bit. Im just trying to get the facts on 24bit cards. Thanks

Yeah, you can use any combination of bit depth and sample rate that the card is capable of, from (I think) 8 to 24 bit, and 11 to 96 KHz - in the logical increments.

Ok, thanks dude

Hi,

I'm using RME Hammerfall 9632 with Logic Platinum 4.72. The recordings so far are made throug a Presonus Digimax. Also have the new Creamware A16 Ultra, have'nt tried it for recordings yet, just monitoring. It works very fine for me, really happy with the setup.

The Digimax makes me mobile too with the built in preamps and limiters, and easy to work with as it has two line level plugs on the frontside, do my bassplaying right into the computer there and I've never heard a better sound on my basses before, actually I thought my basses could not sound so great. Highly recommended.

(samples here made on Pro-Tools/Mac though, the stuff above is better I think, have'nt tried to "strangle" my system yet though with plugs and so)

I have the ST Audio C-Port 24/96.10X10 full duplex for about $400. But I record at 24 bit 44.1k instead of 96k.Hell,the nyquest frequency for 96k is so far past my hearing range I can't justify the huge file sizes recording at 96k.
