what sound card???!!

I'm interested in doing some recording on my computer, probably guitar, bass, drums, and vocals. I need a sound card that will allow me to do this, not necessarily all at once, i dk if only two or 3 at a time, but i also need enough inputs to mic a couple of the drums. I'm for sure getting Cakewalk Home Studio so I need a sound card that is compatible with that software. My computer has USB 2.0 and I really want a sound card thats USB because of convenience. Does anyone have any ideas on what hardware to get for this set up???? I think theres a list of most (all?) of the compatible hardware for Homestudio here: http://www.cakewalk.com/tips/audiohw.asp

You have got to figure out how many inputs you need.

Recording acoustic drums can be difficult. Do you have a great room to record drums in? If you do you can probably get away with using less mics. If you decide to close mic the drums then you are going to need more than a couple inputs if you want to control each drum mic individually in the mix.

Unless you have a pristine room to record drums in, I would be looking for an 8 input card. And there are many good one's to choose from. I use MAudio Delta 1010 and am very satisfied. But then you need to look at preamps and a console. You could use the preamps on the console or buy a card that has built in preamps. Your making an important decision here so think it through carefully.

thanks, I don't know if i need 8 inputs though im thinking 4 would be enough...just need to know what a good one is, ive been reading reviews but havent found anything spectacular. the sound card that you have looks good, but im looking for a USB powered sc...but thanks for your info, if anyone has any more info on good 4 input sc's plz post.

fyi tracertek.com have a maya 4 input for 100 bucks i think it is.
very new so not a lot of user reviews. does 24 bit.
also check out staudio.com.
some multitrack sequencers i like....
ntrack, traktion,multitrackstudio.com(this one is a superb one imho with lots of fx built in) and the two i use are powertracks from pgmusic.com and magix music studio. just try the demoes. imho the pg product is the bargain of all time. talk to users on the forum and try the demo if you dont believe.
this is all pc stuff of course. not for mac.
