Hey.......what up?

Thanks Manning1, been using Audacity since the last thread. Downloaded the trial version of Acid Pro, not much available in the demo, but enough that I may look at buying it this week-end. Looked at Cubase, not for me. Not advanced enough and way too much cash. So, I'm leaning towards Acid Pro, unless someone can recommend a cheaper package? I'm heading off right now to buy a decent mic. Running through the audio card is working pretty good. Here's the only thing I can't figure out.

My Marshall has a line-out on the front, and I have it connected to the sound card. But, it seems that my mic over rides everything? no matter what I do, only the mic. seems to be recording. I checked the line in on the card and it does work. Any ideas?

i would advise NEVER connecting a guitar amp output if this what you are doing to a sound card direct no matter what any amp manufacturer says. and make sure this marshall output is a TRUE RECORDING LINE OUT.
its always best even with a true recording output to "buffer" it,
by feeding to a mixer line input to control the level going to the sound card line input NOT mic input. NEVER USE MIC IN when using on board sound or
the consumer level sb cards.
i assume you have a mixer ?
if you want very affordable multitrack software i suggest you demo
n track, multitrackstudio.com,powertracks,and magix music studio.
the latter two i use.
just search under my name for more info. lots of posts over past year on all sorts of subjects including most items to set up a decent low cost daw that sounds good. or just ask.

I would also suggest Magix Studio Deluxe. I bought it for 80$, at best buy. I'm a rookie too who hopes to get better at recording, and upgrade to cubase or pro tools, but for now Magix does the job. It's easy to operate, sounds good, and burns to a cd very easily.

i use magix same as you. did you get the 2005 ?
frankly i never see the need to upgrade to anything else.
sace your money for good sound card convertors, mics, and pre's.
thats whats important imho.
search under my name for several tips ive posted on using it .
or ask any q's. ive been a user for several years.
tip - really explore the Q factor on the para eq , particularly narrow q factors in conjunction with eq cutting.

no, I havent gotten my mixer yet. Right now I''m just recording acoustic guitar through a cheap karaoke microphone a friend let me borrow. it's not the greatest setup, but at least I get a feel for what i'm getting into. we only have 2 music stores were I live and Ihaven't made it into town yet. I have been loking at E-bay, and other web-sites though, so I may just order through them.

As to the Marshall, I have unpugged the guitar. It says line-out, but I'm still not really sure.

Thankk for the software suggestion.

if you get a chance for acoustic guitar demo a cad gxl mic thru a cheap yamaha mg mixer. and see if you like that.
also for a cheap mic try a panasonic capsule.
but definitely kar mixer is not a good idea unless it gets you by for now.

Double-click the volume speaker in the lower right toolbar.
Click options/properties and choose recording. Here's where you choose what you want recorded. Uncheck everything but line-in to record your marshall.

Cubase is not advance enuff compared to Acid Pro? I've seen quite a few people move up from Acid to Cubase, Sonar or whatever else for need of a more in depth programs.

On the side of options you have N-track and Cubase SE is $99 for cheap .Ableton Live 4 is $399 its an advanced loop based program similar to Acid, been gettin good press lately and can be rewired to another program.

My Bad....I meant I'm not advanced enough for some of the more high end software including cubase.
