Your choices are (as I see them) Vegas audio by Sonic Foundry or Cool Edit Pro by Syntrillium.

Lets see...

Sonar, n-Track, ProTools, Cubase are the first that come to mind.

I wouldn't touch those over-complicated platforms unless I was recording/controlling MIDI. Pure audio is the way to go for me personally and Vegas more than fits the bill and for cheap.

I'm sure Vegas is a fine program -- but it looks like they've dropped the "audio" and pushed it out towards "Vegas Video". I can't find just Vegas Audio to buy -- am I missing something?

I use a combination of Sonar 2.1 with Cool Edit Pro and love it. Cubase SX is also supposed to be pretty darn good.

What's wrong with your copy of Cubase? Why do you want to spend more money on multitracking software?

will the pro tools software work with my delta 44? im looking for a good program with good compression and other effects as well as compatible with my card. i have Cubase VST Sound forge 5 and i can get a copy of those others if i need.

also will cool edit pro allow for 4 track recording Simotainiosly

Vegas audio is cheap here.
Under $200. Vegas video is fine too just dont use the video. It's just an expanded version of Vegas.

The Vegas link you gave only showed one store - and its labeled as out of stock. It also doesn't even mention Windows XP, and I can't find Vegas Audio on the companies website -- are you sure they are still selling it? All I see on sweetwater.com is Vegas Video. I'm sure its a fine product, but it seems like that company may be moving on into video as well as audio, for a significantly higher price.

Apparently, you never have...

Sonar is by far one of the easiest DAW programs I have used.

Soo.... Back to my question: Whats wrong with what you have now? Cubase VST should work fine. Why not spend the money on plugins or outboard gear?

so will the delta 44 and VST give me good controll of my sound??

I think Cool edit pro is a great multi-tracker, especially for the beginner. Now that CEP2 is out, you can probably find CEP for cheap.

Am I the only person here not understading why her/she does not just use Cubase???

Sorry I didn't know they had all dried up.
I think it can be found somewhere still. I know people who use it with XP fine. Cool edit pro is pretty good too.
True I haven't used Sonar but I've tried Cakewalk pro 9 Cubase and Logic and found them overly complicated for audio only mixing. Why get a MIDI/audio program if you never use MIDI?

"Sonar is by far one of the easiest DAW programs I have used"
And around $500 isn't it?

Cubase sucks. I say that from experience.

I have had no problems w/ Cubase in my expereince, and I enjoy using it over cakewalk + syntrillium products.

I use Sonar for audio only so far, and find it easy and intuitive. Its about $300 for the base version and $400 for the XL version. It has a lot of features that I am hoping to use in the future, like outstanding integration with the Mackie Control unit, and working well with the Q10 interface.

What type of control are you looking for? Cubase should be able to handle your needs. Anymore control could probably handled with some decent plug-ins... So, if you have money to spend on another multitracker try and find some good plug-ins...

The best solution

Sonar xl and cubase (SX) seems the best solutions for me.
