What software do you use for Video editing?

Well, after looking around and reading a bunch of reviews, I think I'm going to go with Sonic Foundry's Video Factory, and then upgrade later to Vegas if I feel the need for more power. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions and opinions.

Now the next problem - can I find a retailer that carrys it? I like instant gratification, so I'd rather walk into a store and buy it now than mail order. Unfortunately Best Buy (where I bought Sound Forge 5) doesn't carry it, and apparently neither do any other retailers... <sigh>

only on mac

if you're wanting good.........i mean good video/audio software you first have to have the hardware..........so throw away your PC will be the first step
grab your nutzzzz and go get a dual g4......they got better prices now.
then get a copy of FINAL CUT PRO 3.0. yes the program is around $1000.00
but if you're lucky and attend a college campus that can hook you up like mine can.......you can get that version (no differences) and get the academic version for $300.00.

I used to have vegas audio .....and vegas video.......its cool but not that cool.
I think using pro tools for audio/video would be better, but still not on a PC.

good luck rolling the dice in vegas people

I know Adobe Premier does this, but it also costs about $500, and I just need something basic and cheap. Something I can actually buy and not go broke.

Um, do they make any Reading Comprehension software for that dual G4, zallen?

Wow. Drivel like that doesn't come along very often, but when it does, it sure is amusing.

Downloading it from Sonic Foundry isn't fast enough?

LOL - yeah I guess I could do that, I was just hoping that I could find it cheaper in a store - I picked up Sound Forge the full version 5.0 for $120 at Best Buy.

I was also hoping to get a manual - something I could read away from the computer - but I conceed that's a silly dream, everything these days is Acrobat files on CD.

Oh - and as for throwing away my PC, actually I like my Athlon 1900 very much, thank you.

Yeah, but did you grab your "nutzzzz" when got it?

RWhite, I have seen Video Factory retail somewhere - I JUST CAN'T REMEMBER WHERE!!

Staples?
no
Office Depot?
no
Best Buy?
I dunno.
CompUSA.
Can't remember.
Fry's.
Um, I'm not sure.

But it had to be one of those places. I don't really go to other stores like that.

Also, FYI, when you bump up to Vegas - there is a company that prints their manuals into book form. It costs about $30 to get the same damned PDF manual into printed form.

Check 'er out

Of course, if you had a Dual G4, you wouldn't even need a manual. Those machines are so powerful, the programs run themselves.

Well, what a coincidence - I get home from work tonight and I have a slick new Sonic Foundry catalog in my mail.

Vegas 4.0 looks cool for sure, but I think it's overkill for me, right now at least. Video Factory 2.0 seems to have what I want.

They also advertise printed manuals in the catalog, they have one for Vegas but not for Factory.

Brad, I will check some of those stores, at least Staples and Office depot. I already checked BB and CompUseless, and there are no Frys in this neck of the woods.

Elevate - As for grabing my nuts, the 1900 is indeed nice. But I migrated from a P3/533 to P3/933 to Athlon 1.4 to Athlon XP 1900. So none of the individual upgrades was big enough to be a truely nut-grabbing experiance. :)
