I'd recommend getting a sub too, but it depends on the size of your room.
I play a lot of synth bass so I picked up a KRK 10s sub. I only have to crack the volume to about 9-o'clock and it rattles everything in the kitchen and living room. I keep the LP filter at 80Hz.
I did have a bad buzz at 100Hz after about 2 weeks in the first one I bought, took it back and swapped it for another and haven't had any issues since then.
My main listening setup is a pair of Klipsch KG 2.2's powered by a Carver PM 120 amp and the KRK sub.
A nice function on the KRK is a footswitch input that allows you to switch the sub on and off while listening.
