I'd recommend getting a sub too, but it depends on the size of your room.

I play a lot of synth bass so I picked up a KRK 10s sub. I only have to crack the volume to about 9-o'clock and it rattles everything in the kitchen and living room. I keep the LP filter at 80Hz.

I did have a bad buzz at 100Hz after about 2 weeks in the first one I bought, took it back and swapped it for another and haven't had any issues since then.

My main listening setup is a pair of Klipsch KG 2.2's powered by a Carver PM 120 amp and the KRK sub.

A nice function on the KRK is a footswitch input that allows you to switch the sub on and off while listening.

Something I did when I went shopping for my monitors was take an SPL meter. Setting them to 65 then 85 then 95 dB for the tests let me know that I wasn't hearing more or less of something because of Fletcher-Munson...
Also, if the place you're listening to them at is fairly nice about returns, take your best choices home. Found out after I got my #1's home that they were WAY too powerful for the size of my room. Extra $300 for a Big Knob... :(
