I know i have to get a mic and a sound card or sth like this.

what else should i get for recording?

sorry guys i am extremely a newbie!

I am using the Cool Edit Pro software now. Do i need sth better?

My budget is around 3000 HKD (I am from HK )
I will do upgrades later, but now i can only spend 3k
What Mic should i get and what should i get first?

Thx

Hey dude...
Welcome :drunk:

I just stumbled across this link this morning, oddly enough. :) It should help you figure out what interface.
Click on the "Beginner" tab and walk thru it.

As to the mic, that depends. Mics are kinda like shoes in that some fit and some don't.
Are you at a place where you can try out a few and see what fits your voice?

Ya think you want a dynamic or a condenser? If condenser, you'll wanna make sure you've got phantom power to run it. Worth consideration.

Hi

How many things should i be getting now? I am really lost lol.
My teacher said i am ready to go and record some songs(my vocal teacher)
But the studios around are too expensive, they cost around 100 USD per hour and if u want them to mix it for u, it will cost like another 100-200 USD

If i am going to just do some cover and put them on youtube, what should i be getting?

I'm no computer recording guru by any stretch (as anyone here will tell ya :p )
but from what I've picked up just by reading...
A decent computer
an interface (check out that link up there)
and a mic.
At least for what you wanna do.

As a suggestion for a mic, check out the V67G. It's a condenser so it requires phantom power. I think most interfaces have phantom anyway but make sure.
The 67 is a good mic and it runs about $100 USD. But there are a whole shitload of mics out there and one size doesn't fit all.

Generally, I'd think most vocalists would want a condenser mic. They're usually clearer, more definition. BUT...if you're doing screamo type of vocals, I'd probably look at an SM7 or an RE20. They're a dynamic so they don't need phantom and because they're a dynamic, not as sensitive as a condenser.

check da link and see what ya think.

Are the interface expensive?

No problem dude. :)

Yeah, I've got it (the V67G) and have used it fairly often. That and the AT4050. Also a good one.
Depends on the genre I'm doing or if it's a male or female vocal as to what mic I pick. I don't have a huge selection but 4 or 5 pretty decent ones. ;)

As to the cost of an interface. It depends on what's gonna work for you.
Some people (like you) only need a couple of inputs...Others (like drummers) would need 4 or 8, maybe 12 inputs.
Know what I mean?

What you really need is a cool user name like DogBreath :D presented by the Duke of howling winds over there!.! ;)

HK means Hong Kong= =

Thx Dog Breath

Is 4 enough?

D'OH!
Hong Kong ... never even occurred to me. :o
I'd like to go to Hong Kong. Will ya send me a ticket? :)

Is 4 what enough? Inputs?
That's up to you. Do you plan on using more than 4 inputs?

ok...check out this one.

I have no idea if this is a good one or not. Like I said, I don't use computers for recording. BUT..

This is a decent example of a 2 channel.

2 wouldn't do me much good because I track drums and recently have been using 7 mics.
So I'd need at least...7 inputs and would look for an 8 channel. I'd probably be looking for something like this...
http://www.fullcompass.com/product/332361.html

My brother sings and plays acoustic guitar so he'll be looking for a at least 2 inputs. One for his mic, one for his guitar.
In his case, 4 inputs would be better cuz we want to use 2 mics on his guitar and one for his vocals.

So it pretty much comes down to how many mics / inputs you think you'll need.

Happy tracking man. :drunk:
