So I currently have a Mackie mixing board, connecting to the computer through an M-Audio card. I'm recording a full band, and I have 2 AT2020s, 2 Shure SM-57s, and one bass drum mic on the way (I forget the specifics on that one off-hand, but it's a good mic). I'm recording with Cakewalk Sonar, I've already done room-treatment work, I've got nice enough monitors, and I have $300 to spend. what should I get?

You planning on full band at once? Or laying down separates takes? Just curious.

But in answer to your question, maybe a good condenser for vocals?

Sounds close to my set up. Sort of. Anyways, I'd suggest looking into a good vocal condensor mic (like stated) or maybe consider some smaller stuff (nice headphones, nicer mic stands, etc.) that will make recording easier for you and the person you're recording, especially if you're planning on recording the tracks seperately.

cables.

make your own really good cables with something like mogami cable and neutrik connectors. you're looking at about $15 for a 20ft cable.

markertek.com has everything you need at good prices.

are you using cheapo musiciansfriend cables? i do too, a little bit... hey $5 a pop just to get started was fine.

Cables could be part of the 300 but don't buy 300 dollars worth of cables. Unless cables are really causing you trouble like pops and hisses, you don't really need to replace them. If you get a better quality cable, do an A and B test to see if you can really notice the difference and I bet you can't.

More mics are always a good thing to get becuase then you'll have selection.
