what should i buy??

hi,

I'm trying to figure out how i should spend my +/- 1000$ in the best way... And i would appreciate some help... :)

1st i'm going to tell what i would like to do;
I'm working on some productions right now, but i'm tired of doing it someplace else with someone else behind the buttons. So i want my own setup.
I want a pc (start of my problem, everyone i worked with, works with mac, and i'm not used to mac)
they all worked with logic, and logic announced that its further editions are for mac only...

So, i need a new pc (i allready have a screen, cd-rom, cd-rw and a 60 GB harddisk)
i need to be able to edit recorded tracks (adding layers etc.)
and i need to be able to produce my own tracks using VST-instruments....

What soundcards would you recommend? what motherboard, what ram, another harddisk?,... And what program would you recommand? Right now i'm testing Cubase SX and it doesn't look to crappy... Is pro tools an option?

superb cheap multitrackers to try
as well as powertracks at 29 bucks,,,,
n track, traktion, magix audio studio (which i use as well),
multitrackstudio.com (rock solid stable).
or free try audacity. all demoes at hitsquad.com
 
If you intend to use the PC for recording specifically, then build your system around your software and audio interface. Research the websites of the software/hardware compatibily recommendations.
You could use another HD for audio files only, but this of course is not neccesary........ just a plus.
You can still get Logic for PC in versions 5.5 and below. Usually really cheap on ebay and have plenty of power.
PT is cool if you go with the digi001 or 002, but the TDM systems are outrageously expensive.

But i won't use it for recording alone. I should also be able to produce tracks myself using VST-instruments...

do yourself a favor , go to fasoft.com and demo n track.
has vst instr support. talk to the users on the forum.
also you MUST CHECK OUT MULTITRACKSTUDIO.COM
blow the doors of lots of expensive solutions imho and sounds excellent. vst and dirx support plus i think theyve added sample streaming.
