Hi there, pretty new newbie here. After years of playing and recording in other studios I wanted to put together my own basement studio to be able to give demos to our band after I write the songs so that we have something for pre-production purposes. I won't be taking clients here but I also want to look out for anything that will make my recordings sound better/worse. (Yeah, I know-pretty vague intro.)
We rehearse in this room and overall, it sounds good. We have the volume to good levels so that the PA doesn't feedback and the levels overall are pretty balanced as we practice. Here are some questions that I have:
The room is like a square with an adjacent rectangle. The dimensions of where we play is a pretty basic square of 11 feet by 13 feet. If you can imagine coming down the basement stairs and turning right, the room opens up that way with the square and then the rectangle going off of that.
Should I hang curtains or anything over the open part of the stairs or the other open area that flows into the rest of the basement or will that just absorb any high end or dampen things too much?
Should I put anything above the drums when recording? The ceiling above is ceiling tiles with some lights here and there?
I plan on putting a pre-fab wood floor down. It is concrete now with area rubs. I will put the rugs back down but do you think that it will be too reflective without them?
The height overall is about 7 feet.
I hope my pictures uploaded, I just bought a Macbook so who knows.
The "mixing area" is on that far wall in the picture with the drums against the opposite wall.

Any comments would be appreciated or entertained.
