yeah i defintly want it to warm up my mic i dont just want it to be sterile

Also...

...forgot to mention, for now I just have Shure SM57's and SM58 mikes. I need the preamps to boost the signal into the Yamaha AW16G. Then I'll look into a nice condensor mike.

yeah im all over i just can't decide what to get monitors or this pre ... i need to become rich
Monitors come first, no point in having a pre and no way to listen to it.

yeah sounds logical farview, but then what is the point of havin a pre at all if you can only tell trough monitors ....or are you just saying you hear the true pre sound through monitors

All I'm saying, is that you are getting ahead of yourself. Without decent monitors, you won't be able to hear what is going on. You might not be able to tell the difference between what you are using now and the new pre that you decide to get. There will be a difference, but you might not hear it. Just like you won't hear dozens of other details.
You would be better off starting with a good foundation and adding to that over time, than getting everything up front when you don't really understand what it is all for.

Thanks

Thanks Purge. After I posted, I found other threads about inexpensive pre's, so I was expecting to get (deservedly) flamed for not checking other threads before posting (it's not too late!).

Anyway, I read all those, and the M-Audio DMP3 was recommended by many (and won two polls). The Studio Projects VTB-1 was also well-regarded, and a few people mentioned the Rane MS1B and the FMR RNP, but those may be harder to find (and more expensive). The ART's and Presonus' took a beating in those threads, and I got the impression that if I dared mention Behringer, I would be hunted down and beaten with tire irons. ;-)

My first visit and post to this site, glad I discovered it. Peace.
