The computer I got came with Windows XP home. Are there any issues with using it in a DAW? I was told by a friend that Windows 2000 pro is the best to use in a DAW.

If your apps and hardware support it, XP is the way to go, but that's not to say Win2k is bad.

I vote XP. Do a search on this topic and you'lll find lots of opinions. A recent poll on this forum (maybe a month ago) had about 75% of folks agreeing XP was best last I checked.

XP...If you have all xp compatible hardware there is nothing better

The best OS to use is the newest one that supports all your hardware. If that's XP, then you are all set.

I've been thinking about changing OS within few weeks. I have win 98 now and win2k waiting for installing. I think win2k is more stable system and better for audioworking. Altought 2k needs more ram than 98. I can load only fraction of samples to my sampler compaired to win 98. That is really a downside. How much ram does XP need compaired to win2k? I've got 512MB ram.
