I'm very curious about who else is being KILLED by corporate America and trying to be creative/artistic also.

Good post.

Hello to all and those who do have jobs dat take up mucho time and leave lil for music, I suggest when u are free, use it very wisely and dedicate a certain amount of time to yo muzik and u will have good results. I personally have too much time on my hands and I have a lot of equipment people wish ta have but I am not as creative as I would like ta be. Dj SPIN, u all know and love him and his partner Marc are fortuanate enuff to dedicate themselves to makin sure some muzik is gettin done (along wit bein very social, havin fun and the pitfalls) and the results are havin their record bein distributed, den later BLOWIN UP.

People whatever u do, never let the obsticles (dat are meant ta be dere) disturb progress, summa the greatest artist and producers have a long story ta tell and dats why dey are where dey are.

So fuck a job, (cause dats all it is) get dat loot and spend as much time (if possible) on yo muzik and u will have dem results the owner of yo JOB has.

I voted 50/50. I do have a fulltime job however, and I might not get up to 50/50, but I guess I'm pretty close. And it's killing me. But it's not corperate america over here. ;)

I spend all my free time on music, haven't even got time to watch tv. So I decided it's about time to switch priorities, in about 4 months I quit my job and go study music... Or more precise, I'll quit my job as soon as the boss is back in, then I'll have to work for at least 3 more months, but I'll make that just as long as I can cause I'll need the money, and then it's of to conservatory...

How much time do you, mshea, devote to your music?

Aouch Gec. I want to, really do, but I really ain't got the time. :D
Why don't you tell us what's in it?

The reason you don't have the time is because you haven't read the book...................Time is more important than Money.........I could have all the money in the world, but it will not buy me even the 30seconds back that I am writing this. Once time has past its gone forever and the longer you continue wasting your time the more time will just keep passing. Ask anyone with a child how fast time has passed by since the birth.

None of that is in the book, but just my perspective......Read the book

Corps are killing me!!

Hey mshea-- yeah, the corp thing sucks ass. Plus I commute to Beantown, 60 miles and an hour-and-a-half away. It's tough to find $$ to live in RI on RI pay scales, and forget the Boston rents! Not like RI has any good jobs period, low pay or no...

The job itself is OK, the time and commute thing's're the killer. And the corps that are our clients--boy are they idiots, some of them.

Like Roel, music prevents me from watching TV (awwwwwww). I'd rather fry my ears than rot my brain. :)

I agree full-on with gec on the time thing. I'm starting to think of taking a lower-paying gig to get more of my time back. Or get some freelance stuff to do on the trains.... hey, anybody need lyric sheets, etc. copy-edited? Wielding the red pen is my current gig--and I'll do it *real* cheap for homerecording.com folks... and no, I don't edit my posts! (Too cheap to pay myself ;) )

Hey esactun,

I see we both live in providence............Plunder Dome

All we want is life beyond the Plunder Dome...

(Sorry for the Tina/MMIII reference ;) )

Yeah, gec, Buddy's corruption trial (the mayor of Providence, y'all-- Vincent A. "Buddy" Cianci) will be interesting to watch. If he doesn't go down this time, he'll be bulletproof. Mayor For Life. I was actually working at WJAR when the story broke. Taricani was ecstatic ;) . It was craziness that day.

It'll be quite a battle between Buddy's legions of die-hard disciples and his sworn enemies. There's so much to both love and hate about the guy.

My pad's between the East Side and Mount Hope, over near Miko's. I wish I was home right now--it's pretty frickin' chilly in Boston today! It's slow at work!! And I've got tracks to process!!! :)

im looking forward to seeing buddy go down!

It sucks when you got all this equipment at your house but between and after a 51hr work week im either to tierd or not inspired to stay up all night working on music. Plus the girlfriend thing chops off more music time.Ahhhhhhhhh........sigh.
But this year im not in a band so i can use my 2 weeks of v-cay towards my music and whatever ,insted of being in a van w/3 other crazys drinkin on the way to a gig in jersay.

My day job is 4 ten hour days with 3 days off which all of it is pretty much in the studio, although, it's not unheard of for me to do a few hours in the evenings after work. It's safe to assume that i do 40+ hours a week behind the desk.

Got like 4-5 jobs plus music

no I'm not Jamaican... :-P
I voted 50/50
I try to strike a balance with what I gotta do.
Just havent reached full potential yet - late bloomer

never let the obsticles (dat are meant ta be dere) disturb progress,

Money isn't important. But I NEED my piano (which I just bought), I still need a new sax for my studies next year, I need to survive for the 5 next year, as much as possible without working in between my lessons, I want more mics and equipement, ... And you need money for that. Hey, don't tell me money is not important, I'm giving up big engineering-$$ for scraping every eurocent together studying music, with no future ahead of me, being a composer is not a goodpaying job. If it pays at all...
