Well, I just got 4 Tascam DA-88's and I am now wondering weather I did the right thing. Should I have went with a digital hard drive (alesis 24 ch) or are the tape decks a good place to start. I work for a live sound company so I have easy access to consoles and mics so that part I am not worried about. But once I have recorded the tracks on the DA-88's how do I transfer those tracks to my PC? That is where I am getting snagged. I know I need some type of interface, but which one? Should I sell the DA-88's and go for a digital Deck? Let me know what you think.

There are ways of getting analog sound onto your pc, but they require software that can capture the signal, and just go to the line in on your soundcard.
The easier way is to get a digital machine that has usb or firewire. Check out Tascam or Fostex websites for some ideas.
If you want, I can tell you how I used to transfer my stuff to pc when all I had was a Tascam MF-P01.

Budget!

My budget flucuates. I am still in college (and paying for it), I'm getting married in 11 months, and have this addidction to learn recording. So, the budget is probably sub $1,000.00. I think that is a descent amount to do what I want to do...right now anyway.
