Guys,
What monitors (speaker type monitors) are you guys using for your DAWs? I've got the PC/soundcard/OS/Software lined out for the new one I've got on the drawing board. (Hope to order in the next 2-3 weeks) and now I'm down to thinking about this can of worms. I really like the Mackie 824s but I'm thinking they may be just out of my budget. They run about $1300/pr. at most everywhere I've seen. This is for a church and we will be doing primarily acapella choral type stuff, but will occasionally do instrumental stuff too. Probably 80/20 ratio vocal/instruments. Also, who's got the best price on studio type monitors? Thanks!!

You thought you could just ignore me, huh?

OK, I threw it out there, it got no responses and I patiently waited till it dropped off the list. But I will not be denied! What are you guys doing, building these machines and then just staring at 'em?! Or, are you building them and recording into them and not listening to what you've done?
I'm just curious about what speakers you guys use to critically listen to your work. Are they the speakers that came with the PC or did you upgrade? If so, what did you get? Do they work for you, do you wish you had chosen something else, are you looking at something else...?
thanks guys 'n gals...

You need to post this in the "Other Equipment and Reviews" forum... Monitors aren't exactly a computer part... :p

I already have a post up here aboot this very topic, and it might help you narrow something down that's more in your price range (like the Mackie HR624's).

Thanks

Thanks WATYF! Nice thread. The reason I posted it here though was I wanted the opinions of the guys who are posting on this board who are doing the PC recording thing. Hadn't heard about the Yorkvilles but would like to check them out. What did you end up with BTW?

The recording medium is irrelevant when choosing monitors. A good pair of monitors for an analog 4 track are also a good pair of monitors for a 96CH DAW.

I haven't decided yet. I'm not too sure aboot the Yorkvilles. I'm also shopping for a mic right now... so I might not get the monitors for a bit.

I use the PC mostly for digital editing... I monitor from my control room console and sometimes headphones.......

My primary nearfields are KRK V8s, secondary are Yorkville YSM-1i /w Tannoy sub.......... Hafler P3000 amp.........

Definitely NOT "computer parts"...! ;)
