1. A couple of Shure sm57, Shure sm58 or a dynamic of that ilk. (ev 635a's        
    are a good sleeper mic on ebay)
2. A matched pair of small diaphram condensors.
3. One large diaphram condensor

1. A tube mic
2. A ribbon mic (beyers are a good affordable staring point)
3. Medium diameter condensors
4. A whole bunch of crappy odd vintage mics that make up for in charachter what they don't have in sound quality.
5. A drum mic kit w/ clamps
This is all based on having absoltely no idea what you are going to be recording onto, or what kinda of music you are going to want to capture, and how you want those captured sounds to sound.
