Best all rounder on me is the Beyer M88TG.
(beats out the Neumann U87ai BTW)
This is the one that would be taken to any pro studios, no matter
how choice their microphone selections, for scratch tracks,
at the very least.
Electro-Voice RE15 or RE16 is cool for retro "ribbonish" vocal vibe
ala Sun Records/Early RCA rock and roll, and some ballads.
Easier microphones to use for self-recording than a M88 also,
as they have the "variable-D" design feature, thereby easier to "place" properly versus a typical unidirectional.

P.S. Am planning to get an actual ribbon eventually, as I'm a huge
fan of their "sound". Might ante up for the AEA R84.
