I need a soundcard for recording just voice (rap)... any suggestions to something with good quality for a good price

rap like I unno how to answer that lol... like eminem, tupac, nas

Best soundcard for rap vocals under $100?

I use the M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 ($99) which seems perfect for me. Very clean and no noise. 2 Analog inputs which is 1 more than you need for rap vocals. Also has a MIDI port if you wanna hook up a MIDI keyboard and make beats and all that...stuff.

What genre?

Are we talking Battle Rap, Crunk, East Coast, West Coast, Gangsta, Hyphy, Southern, Old School, etc..

thanks danny ill look into that one

for the genre? nothing crunk or clubbish... i wouldnt say gangsta either... something inbetween oldschool and hardcore... its mostly about the lyrics

more info needed.

does this rap have cursing, yelling, screaming, violence, demeaning towards women, racism or the likes?

some soundcards won't cut it then.

What's your budget?

You need to think about microphones, preamps, monitors, software...etc etc
when you plan out your budget.

therage... I have a mic and software all I need is a soundcard

I'm hearing people say to get a PCI card... the mic has an XLR plug

What kind of mic is it? You'll need a preamp for it. If it's a condenser mic, or you ever plan on getting a condenser mic then you'll probably need one with 48v phantom power. The M-Audio DMP3 is a good one.

I got the 24/96 sound card with the DMP3, that totals about $250 new. If you buy used you can get a better deal. Plus you have to factor in cables, mic stands, or whatever else you don't have yet.

UH-OH,
Ignore the rubbish responses. They are just wasting your time and everbody elses.
Danny gave you some good advice.

Regardless of what vocals you want to record, you want a sound card that can atleast duplex (I.e record and playback at the same time) with decently low latency.

The sound blaster Audigy 2 is a cheap and chearful card that would get you going, though you will outgrow it quickly.

I bought an EMU 0404, which im struggling to get to grips with, but it does produce better sound.

The sound card is one important aspect of you recording setup. What program do you intend to use to capture your recordings?
Cubase or Cakwalk are two popular ones.

(and c'mon guys give the man break. You were all beginners once!)

OK,

I have never used Abobe Audition so I can't comment on it.
Very often when you buy a sound card you get Cubase lite or Cakewalk lite included in the package. You might get more help if you use one of these programs in the forums.
My recommendation to you would be to buy a Creative Audigy sound card. They are easy to install and use and give fairly decent sound.
You can also use them for your gaming etc if thats what you do.

If you get the recording bug then you can move up to a better sound card.

Let us know how you go..

ok.. well I'll check out Best buy, and write down what you suggested, thank you

I ended up buying a tascam audio interface... My mic needed phantom power and so I bought this. It came with Cubase LE.
